5.1 Output - Audio settings problem?

Newman wrote on 7/14/2003, 4:38 PM
Specs: 5.1 soundblaster digital/Creative inspire 5700's (external decoder) /Vegas 4

When panning around the 5.1 diagram. There is no centre speaker volume. And the rear left and right are outputting the weak audio signal from the front channels. Even after outputting to ac3 (not only preview).

I am using a Digital DIN cable. Which allows multiple channels at a time to be processed.

In preferences. Audio Devices it displays.
- Sound Mapper - and the three items beneath are deactivated. (unlike help diagram where they are activated)

-Windows Classic Wave Driver
set as soundblaster live audio as recording default. - The 3 options underneath are also deactivated.

-------------------------------
I have a feeling it is down The Driver audio device settings.

Do u know a solution to this problem?

Thanks for reading

And have a good day!

You must use a card that has drivers the expose 3 discreet audio pairs. The SB 5.1 does NOT have drivers that do this.

You can use the DirectSound Surround Mapper in Vegas with the SB 5.1 IFF if you

1. Have the Latest drivers installed from Creative
2. Have the SB 5.1 mixer installed and configured for the correct speaker arrangement
3. Have Windows configured for the correct speaker arrangment.
4. Are running WinXP.
5. Use the ANALOG ouputs of the SB 5.1.

ONLY if all of the above are configured and set up will the SB 5.1 permit surround output.

Thank you kindly Peter for responding.

Looking at your checklist. I have done all of the following.

(yes) 1. Have the Latest drivers installed from Creative
(yes) 2. Have the SB 5.1 mixer installed and configured for the correct speaker arrangement
(yes) 3. Have Windows configured for the correct speaker arrangment.
(yes)4. Are running WinXP.
(yes)5. Use the ANALOG ouputs of the SB 5.1.

^Analog results in 4.1 though^

I do not have "DirectSound Surround Mapper " listed
-Microsoft Sound Mapper
-Windows classic Driver

Directx 9 is installed.

How do I go about getting this feature?

And again that your for your response.

Correct. The SB 5.1 does not have 6 analog out puts and the LFE is emulated.

What version of Vegas 4 are you using?

Peter

-I had version 4.0.
-I have now updated to 4.0c. And indeed you are correct.
Directsound Surround mapper is now there.

It is working great as 4 channels. (with Digital DIN)

As you said LFE and the center are not working. But twidiling with the 5.1 mixer I can get sound out the center speaker. But I believe it is using just the front or rear channel.
I am Considering upgrading the sound card.

But for now it is great. Thank you

You are on my Christmas Card List!

I had great fun with the APS drivers on my sblive.

Thanks Superfulcrum

The driver KX. Is fantastic.
Even skins on the mixer.

But the driver stops the ability of the Directsound surround mapper in Vegas.

Which is extremely annoying. I was looking forward to using the KX drivers features.

Thanks very much anyway.

You should be able to use the KX ASIO drivers to route your surround mix.

Just to say.

Remember Peter you said I would only be able to 4 channels and analog with a 5.1 soundblaster. (For preview)

Well out of the blue. The centre speaker does indeed work all of a sudden on preview.
I also have got LFE to work aswell. Using the digital DIN.

Which is great. (jumping with joy) Just to let you know.
Very happy now.
