5.1 speaker advise

I have a pair of Mackie HR824s and a delta 1010 in a 10'x10' room. I want to try some 5.1 mixes, so need I need a sub, center and 2 surrounds. For cost reasons, I was considering the M-audio LX4 2.1 setup and try to find one extra monitor, or buy the 5.1 setup and sell 2 of the monitors. Any thoughts on mixing this with the 824's?

thanks,

jeff

I wouldn't mix n' match, not if it's critical work. You're better off with 5 matching cheap speakers than 2 matching good speaks and 3 unmatched cheap speaks.
The LX4 system is excellent for small rooms on projects that are not "blow you away" action films. They manage to crank out a decent range/response, but my bigger concern would be that if you're used to those really sweet 824's, you might hate the change. That's a very hard speaker to top in it's class. that's what we use in our B room.

I can't WAIT for "Now Hear This"
I mean, I'M WAITING FOR "NOW HEAR THIS!"
I'm wanting to improve/upgrade the audio of my A/V setup and want to "do it right," so I'm very anxioius to get this DVD. I'm looking forward to the info therein.

It's coming. As you may have heard, we were obligated to change a part of it due to manufacturer's issues. Damn the legal stuff anyway. :-)
