5 and 6 on same computer?

i know sony hasn't repaired the tc entry problem in advanced capture (pal only), but i thought i'd try out 6, and was wondering about the following:

a. can i run 5 and 6 on the same pc, and can i then uninstall one of them without affectting the other?

b. how do i share excalibur and other scripts between them, or do i need to seperately install for both?

c. do i have to install media manager? (i know i can switch if off after from preferences)

d. am i deluding myself that it's worth bothering with 6 when i'm not interested in hdv, or nested veggies?

thanks, as ever,

leslie

a) Vegas 5 & 6 can definitely co-exist on the same system, and I'd bet that most Vegas 5 users who upgraded to 6 didn't uninstall 5 right away, if at all.

b) no experience with this issue

c) I don't believe there's an option to skip media manager installation, but am not 100% certain.

d) Those are two of the major attractions in 6, but not the only ones. Some users appreciate the enhanced preview on external device capablilities, and others report faster rendering, particularly with multi-threading processors.

Yup. I’ve got them both running right now, That’s how I test that Ultimate S works with both versions.

There are new versions of Excalibur and Ultimate S that recognize and install in both versions at the same time. Other free scripts will have to be copied into both Script Menu folders.

Yes. You can turn it off but you have to install it. It is part of the product.

As cbrillow said, being able to preview on the secondary monitor is great. MPEG2 rendering is significantly faster if you have a hyperthreaded (P4) or dual proc/core CPU. DVD Architect 3 has many significant improvements (and you can’t get DVDA3 without Vegas 6)

If you think you don’t need nested vegs, just wait until you have the capability. Then you will find 101 uses for them and you will wonder how you survived without it (probably a lot of cut-n-paste, that’s how). Also the Media Manager is an incredible productivity tool. Some of the people who don’t like it, just don’t understand it. I don’t blame them because its not obvious at first. I give a 20 minute tutorial on how to use it on the VASST Vegas 6 FASST DVD. You really need to see what the Media Manager can do for you. Once you use it you will understand why it is lightyears better than the Windows filesystem for managing your media files.

ps. johnnyroy, do you have anything web based by way of an explaination of media manager? i've had a look at the 'help' files, and played with it on a friends laptop, with little understanding.

I have been running with both 5 and 6 on on PC for awhile now. Decided to uninstall 5 . Lost several audio plugins. The Sony track EQ is missing now.

Where oh where did it go?

Windows10 with Vegas 11 Pro (most recent build). Intel Core i7-3770 @ 3.40GHz 3.90 GHz, 32GB ram, separate audio and video disks. Also Vegas 17 Pro on same system. GPU: NVDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER. Dynamic RAM preview=OFF.

Leslie, just reinstall Excalibur 4 or 5 and it will go to both locations as JR said. If you're not on Excalibur 5 and you didn't save the install, e-mail me and I can point you to the right place.
