64-bit Vegas won't import .mts files

ronhurt wrote on 5/16/2009, 6:30 PM
Installed Windows 7 as a dual boot on a new laptop, then installed the 64-bit version of Vegas 9, but it won't import .mts files that are imported with no problem in the Vegas 8 running on the other partition with Vista. I've seen problem described on other forums, but no solution. Is anyone familiar with this?

Thanks in advance

Is this a trial version or do you have a valid license?

It's the trial version, which I understood to be fully functioning, no?

I don't believe it is fully functional.... or at least it wasn't before. Most NLE's don't come fully functional with mts/mpg...etc because there is a license fee on the encoder.

Well, then I can't perform much of a trial then. Did you mean most trial versions of NLEs don't come with mts encoders?

Well, I am experiencing the same problem with a licenced version of Vegas 9 64-bit on Windows 7. No import of MTS files, whereas Vegas 8.0b on XP doesn't even blink.

Is this a problem known to and/or acknowledged by SCS?

Importing files in Vegas 64 needs 64 bit filters for decoding. I know they should be there, but, trying it in Vegas 9 32 (in 7 64) might give you a hint of whether the problem is Vegas itself or mts file handling in 7 on your system. 7 does some of that stuff differently than Vista, & you'll not likely get anything from Sony as 7's not supported yet -- check the Knowledgbase on their 7's unsupported policy.

I hope this doesn't sound too stupid a question: Can you install both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions on the same system?

Yes, both 32 and 64 bit can be installed on a 64-bit OS.

Thanks a lot! We'll give it a try and see if it helps.
