8.0c breaks MP4 files in QTIndexSwapper

My original how to on solovj.com now appears to be invalid since the release of 8.0c.

It appears that any mp4's rendered out from 8.0c exactly as I describe in my how to for progressive playing of mp4 video files in Flash video player throws an error message from QtIndexSwapper stating the following:

ERROR: encountered non-QT top-level atom (is this a Quicktime file?)

I verified this by opening an mp4 file that had been originally rendered out in 8.0b and QtIndexSwapper processed the file with no errors. In addition, uploading the mp4 file unaltered does not play back progressively in FLV player.

My turn to rant now: This is another yet another FUBAR for me and Vegas Pro 8 - add to the fact that any veg files opened in 8.0c now become corrupted only adds insult to injury - even when reinstalling 8.0b.

Again, I ran a complete reinstall from scratch off of my Acronis base OS only install image just to make sure there was nothing being left behind from the uninstall of 8.0c and reverting back to 8.0b.

Can anyone confirm this on their end?

If this is not just an isolated instance, I'm going to have to make the difficult choice of saying adios to SONY's supposed flagship pro application.

Addendum: an additional issue that has arisen: When opening a project saved in 8.0c back in 8.0b, the following error message comes up:

Media file ***.m2t has changed enough that the media stream properties from the project file could not be applied. Default media stream properties were used.

Now the audio track is silent with no wave forms - WTF!

Addendum update:

I can confirm the moment I upgrade to 8.0c, the waveforms for the m2t files on the timeline become active and audio playback does occur. There appears to be no backwards compatibility for projects originally created in earlier 8.0 versions.

Hi Cliff

I found your note after searching for how to get mpg4 to stream properly on the web. At this point I render out an avi file, then encode it inside quicktime pro and check the box for streaming. It would be much easier if Vegas would just have a check box for streaming and get the QTindex deal in the right place.

(cross posting to this thread also)
for anyone still struggling with this, I found a solution that (edit: might) work

mp4 fast start is a little program that takes the mpg4 file from vegas and makes it so it will stream.

(update, it causes glitches in the streaming...mine started to glitch after 60 seconds in...so check it fully).

Sony Vegas...please give us the option to prep the file for streaming in the render dialog. We're at a disadvantage to other editors in this area...and more and more video is going to the web.
