8.0c No video in Preview Window

I've just installed 8.0c on top of 8.0b - no install problems. However, when I now select a file in the explorer window which includes a picture, e.g. mpg, jpg etc, and then click the Preview button, the Preview window stays black. If the file is mpg the frame counter in the Preview window ticks up and I hear the audio, but there's no picture. The Preview window is ok with video on the timeline.
Anyone have any ideas please?

In the trimmer window, the upper right corner click the "show video monitor" button.

For some reason Vegas decided to default the playback to the trimmer window.

And a double thanks from me... I upgraded 2 machines and lost preview with both (A Sony Vaio, and a Dell XPS). I never use the trimmer, so would have never thought about that. Perhaps I should explore and try using the trimmer. :-)
