8.1 doesn't do HDV smart-render?

OK, I remember editing HDV footage with Vegas 8.0b and it did smart-render both for pre-renders and for final renders. I remember that for the parts it didn't need to render the monitor window would go black and it said something at the bottom to note that it didn't need recompressing, and then it only showed the footage that needed so, such as transitions, filters, etc.

Now I'm editing HDV on 8.1 and while a pre-render to the HDV module is a snap thanks to smart-render, the final render is recompressing every single frame. The setting for no recompression is checked in the preferences, so what's the deal? 8.1 doesn't support smart-render for final renders? Why would it support it for pre-renders, but not for final renders?

If you go to Options/Preferences/General and scroll down to the last option on the list, you'll see it says "Enable no-recompress long GOP rendering". This tab needs to be selected in order to smart-render HDV m2t video. Is it?

Yes, that's the one I mentioned in my post.

I'm not seeing any "no recompress" either. No recompress is enabled in preferences and I have made sure not to change anything on the time line. By all accounts I SHOULD be getting No Recompress.

The HDV render template is at its default level and the quality slider has been tried in different directions.

I just installed 8.0c and it DOES smart-render to the final file. So what's the point of having paid Microsoft $11 for the 64 bit Vista DVD and gone through the long process of converting my system to 64 bit when now I have to keep using the same old chock full of bugs 8.0c? Simply PATHETIC.

I wouldn't be too upset. (IMO)... they didn't release 8.1 because it was ready for prime time. They released it because Adobe was getting ready to release their 64 bit system. I look at 8.1 as sort of a PRErelease.

Whatever way you may look at it, they didn't release it with a disclaimer of it being pre-release software. Even more, they sent at least one of their newsletters mentioning how fantastic it was. So I think I do have a reason to be upset, especially when I wasted a bit of money and a lot of time converting my system to 64 bit, only to have to use 32 bit buggier than hell Vegas 8.0c

Are you sure it is recompressing?... On SD my screen stays black most of the time with the "No recompression Needed" banner, but on HDV the banner only flickers intermittently. Is the render taking a very long time to indicate recompression?

"Are you sure it is recompressing?... "

I don't do sd but with HD... yes... I'm sure. I have 8c and no recompress DOES work there.

8.1 is recompressing every frame... there is no doubt about it.
