Thanks for the response. BUt I'm not clear on this.
Are you seeing @%SystemRoot%\system32\msimsg.dll,-27 in the registry for the value of HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer\ImagePath ??
My fault. I'm not looking for DisplayName but ImagePath.
I edited my orig post to reflect the correction to ImagePath.
I'm trying to figure out why my Vista 64 system will not install 8.1 .. It's
something to do with Windows Installer not being accessable. Question is does
the 64 bit installer ( C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\msiexec.exe /V )
need to be specific as the value in the registry?
My registry has C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe /V as the value for
ImagePath in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer
Hi xberk, I have traced my problems to motherboard drivers. When I installed 8.1 after installing the MB drivers the Vegas registration executable would not run. If I installed 8.1 before the MB drivers I could install it ok. After installing the MB drivers I could then not open 8.1 as the executavle would not run. Not sure if your issue is related.
This is of interest as (reference your other post) I too have a Gigabyte MB. P35C-D3SR. Are you suggesting I remove MB drivers and try the install then?
I'm sure others have Gigabyte MB who are installing successfully. Maybe I need to update my drivers - My P35C-D3SR is a little over a year old.
If you can uninstall the drivers it would be worth a try. Basically when I install the Gigabyte MB drivers I have problems... the type of problem depends on when I install 8.1 relative to installing the Gigabyte drivers.
