8 seconds of video only???

Hi there, I'm trying to get this going with my sony 201 DVD video camera. I copy the VOB file to my computer, and then change the name to mpg and if I view the mpg file, I see all the movies in one clip no problem...

However when I try to put it in my Sony Vegas Movie Studio it only seems to put in about 7-10 seconds of clips and that's it.. No sound with it, but that's another issue...

Can someone please let me know what I'm doing wrong!!!

I just need to know how to get the entire mpg movie to actually show up in the video... I've tried adding in the Trimmer window, but each clip it adds is only about 7-10 seconds. It won't add the entire clips. I see the various clips in there, but not the full length of them...

Any help appreciated!! Thanks...

Cheers!

The lack of sound is easily diagnosed, but not easily fixed - it's in AC-3 format, which MS can't handle. I've no idea why the video's a problem - sorry!

I recall seeing someone report something similar on the Vegas board. There appears to be something about these MPEG streams that the camera is creating that just isn't quite right. I don't recall if there was any resolutionfor this or not.

Here's something to try - get a copy of DVD2AVI and see if it will extract the video info from the VOB for you - if it can, then you can put the stuff into an AVI (using a DV codec or uncompressed) which will be much easier to edit. In addition, DVD2AVI can aso extract the AC3 information as a standard windows WAV file which you can then use to edit.

Thanks Scott, I'll also try that. I got it to work. I used Dr. Divx and first try had no sound when I put the avi in, the saw Ian's message about Ac-3 format, so redid it with Dr. Divx and included Ac-3 sound and it worked this time... YEAH!!!! I only have a 15 day trial of Dr. Divx, so will try the dvd2avi since I can get a free copy and see if it works as well...

Thanks for your help guys!! Appreciate it... FInally one step further...

Now onto figuring out how to make clips of what I have and combine them... This is pretty fun!
