Not in my experience. I like 9.0c 64 bit for AVCHD but 9.0c 64 has some basic problems with jpg and png files so, at present, I'd use 8.0c for AVCHD and 9.0b 64 otherwise.
9b probably is better for editing than 9c, but I have problems rendering my complex .VEGs in 9b; 9c-64 solved my rendering problems. Because I'm not able to have both 9b-64 and 9c-64, I edit in 8c, then render in 9c.
Occasionally I still have to do editing chores in 9c-64 - like when I want to render files from my Sanyo cams to an intermediate such as Cineform codec, or when I want to pan across a huge still. For simple things like these, 9c-64 works great, whereas 8c doesn't work at all.
well I am clearly going to have to do something other than what I am doing now. (stuck in vista 32 with 8-32 or 9-32)
the prob Im having is I have 3 types of media.
P2- works fine and plays well with HDV
HDV- works fine and plays well with P2
AVCHD- when I place the AVCHD on tracks in a session along with the P2 and HDV it completely whacks Vegas out and become instant crash fest...I can not edit one thing let alone keep the app open!!!???

"Is there anything that Vegas 9 can do that Vegas 8 can't."
As I mentioned on several other threads, Vegas 8 cannot handle large stills, so I must pan/crop in 9x, then render to an .AVI for placement on the 8c timeline. Moreover, 9 can work with codecs that won't work in 8 - so I use 9c to render my Sanyo files to an intermediate codec, such as Cineform or PicVid, then bring them back into 8 for editing.
When finished editing in 8c, I save under a new filename and open in 9c for rendering. 9c is the first version of Vegas that can render all of my long, complex videos (at least, all that I've tried so far).
I might have to go that route....render to cineform from 9c and edit in 8c (i have some big stills too plus Im considering using some REALLY big QuickTime screen capture movies to pan and scan...you ever done that?
thanks but before i can get to color spaces I have to be able to run the app without constantly crashing and with it not being too bogged down....thats my only concerns right now.
either an app works or it doesn't, for me, vv 8 or 9 32bit doesn't when using the current media formats. i was stupid enough to believe some anonymous poster on a forum somewhere who said its possible to run (run meaning functionally) mxf m2t and avchd on the same time line and thus ended up with tons of mixed format footage
