I haven't had any rendering problems with a quad core with 9.0 or 9.0a - not sure what problem you read about - care to elaborate?

They have obviously done some work on the Sony avc encoder. The block and artifact problem I was having in lower lights shots is now gone in 9a. There still seems to be a smart render problem though. This issue however was only forwarded to scs about a week and a half ago so it's quite understandable that we have not seen any improvement there yet.

On the other hand I'm finding that the encoder output is of high enough quality now so that the smart render feature is more of an asset than a necessity as it was before. I'm in the process now of turning out my first avc based Blu Ray disk (as opposed to my normal mpeg2 output) and all is looking quite good so far.

And no.... no issues with my Q6600 quad either.

There have been a number of threads with people documenting their problems with Quad Core AVCHD rendering.

Here's one: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?Forum=4&MessageID=642895

No one knows whether or not those crashes have ANYTHING at all to do with quad cores. That's just some one's WILD guess that somehow got turned into "fact". ONE of numerous fixes for crashing with Vegas 8c was to scale back to one core. As a result some people kind of flipped a coin and because it landed on heads.... they figured that the crashing issues were directly related to quad cores. This has not been proven in anyway, shape or form.

Not withstanding, these issues were with Vegas 8.... Vegas 9 seems to be working quite well.

All I have ever known is AVCHD since I started doing video and it's always been on a quadcore system. First I started with a 2.4ghz and then upgraded to the 3.0 Extreme. AVCHD has had some render issues at times but it's been a memory issue. Blink helped with that by sharing what he found in CFF Explorer and now Sony has said they fixed the AVCHD memory addressing issues. It's been slow but we're getting there.

No problems with 9 and 9a. I had a lot of problems with render crashes with 8/8.1 but fixed it by creating a 12GB virtual memory setup on my C and D drives. That fixed issues in the V8 versions. 9 has been fine but I also have left my virtual memory settings quite high so can't say how 9 runs if you use the default virtual memory settings. I believe I did so the CFF explorer tweak that Blink posted as well but not sure it that was the real fix or not. I was desperate at the time and tried everything I could to plug the memory leak.

Anyway, I LOVE being able to use the software now without fear of frequent crashes.
