9.0a update issue (ends prematurely)

I've got:
"The Installation Wizard has ended prematurely!
Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, please run the installation again.
Click the Exit button to exit the Installation Wizard."

when I tried to update from 64-bit 9.0 to 64-bit 9.0a.

I made an uninstall and tried again, with same issue repeating.

I have a Intel QuadCore, 4BG RAM, 1TB HDD, 32GB SSD (swap), Windows Vista Professional (64-bit). The system I run also runs a SQL-server and have Office 2007 installed.

The event-viewer says:
- Beginning a Windows Installer transaction: D:\temp\SonyInstall_1\Vegas90.msi. Client Process Id: 5144.
- Successfully created restore point (Process = C:\Windows\system32\msiexec.exe /V; Description = Installed Vegas Pro 9.0 (64-bit)).

Why does it involve the Logitech SetPoint.exe ?
Why does it name the processorArchitecture amd64, I have a Intel64 !!

With best regards;

Roger - Can you install other 64 bit programs or is it just Vegas 9.0a that fails?
It's likely some conflict in your system that might involve the registry. Check your restore points. Did your system change between installing 9.0 and 9.0a .. Can you go back and restore to that point?

I have precisely the same issue. The install seems to have worked regardless, but I am also experiencing some odd freezing with certain video files and I had to enable compatibility mode in W7 to even get 9.0 64-bit to run.

I'm a computer tech so I'm no idiot when it comes to this sort of thing either. Clean installs, system restores, ending all services/tasks has done nothing to rectify the issue. Even temporarily uninstalling Eset NOD32 did nothing.

I wish someone could come up with a solution to this...

Edit:

And speaking from the standpoint of my techie curiosity, I have to wonder whether or not the apparent misidentification of the processor architecture has something to do with it:

"Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.OpenMP,processorArchitecture="amd64""

You're running an Intel, not an AMD. I'm quite sure mine says the same thing.

Edit #2:

These people seem to think it has everything to do with the 2008 Visual C++ Libraries not being properly installed/loaded during installation:

I've had the same issue with both the 9.0 and 9.0a. I filed a Support ticket, but all SCS has to say is "try clean install"...

I had this fail during installation. I went to MS Downloads, got the redistributable from there, installed it separately, then the 9.0a install went fine.

Still can't get this to install properly. Anyone had the problem and solved it with Windows 7?

I installed Win 7 64bit two weeks ago and have a minimal amount of programs on it. Vegas 9 64Bit has been a disaster. Took 3 days to do a 1 day edit with it.

I finally got the 2 hr time line to behave using Cineform files mixing 1080p and 720p.

Did the v9 64 bit upgrade today and it installed without a hitch, no error messages, etc.

Did a quick test with new footage and the 2 hr time line I just got done with and no glitch so far. I expect glitches but am keeping my fingers crossed. In the middle of the 3 day edit for the 1 day rough edit, I went out and looked at FCP. Apple didn't have it on their demo machine yet so it cooled my heals for a few days.

I waited till 2 weeks ago to buy V9 as I didn't want to be test subject. Guess I didn't wait long enough.

Frustrated, but calming down till the next edit.

Just verified this problem on a second machine. I was able to replicate the "...ended prematurely" error message simply by updating to WIndows 7 RTM and attempting an install of 9.0a 64-bit (no 9.0 64-bit version existed on the machine prior to the update, only 32-bit).

The only thing I can think of in common between the two machines, apart from the fact that they're both Dell M1330 laptops running Windows 7 64-bit, is that they also both run ESET NOD32 4.0. I have attempted the install with ESET removed as well, however, and nothing changes.

I'm not sure what to make of this, but it's sure as heck putting a crimp in my routines!
