I made music compilation with a wav file using above parameters.
When played back on my Pioneer player the sound was played back at 50% speed. The same compilation made at 48kHz/24bit plays ok. The sticker on my player claims that the DAC is capable of 96kHz/24 bit.
Any clues???
Thanks.
This slow-motion playback seemingly depends on the type of DVD player and on DSP firmware of the player. E.g. the slowmotion sound also occurs for 24/96 DVD-V discs when played back on a recent (and expensive) Denon-2900 universal DVD-audio/DVD-video/SACD model. Somehow, the firmware of most DVD players is limited, that it only expect a maximum 48 kHz sample rate for DVD-V discs, no matter what you choose as audio options in the players configuration menus. Result is that the playback speed of 96 kHz audio is slowed down by a factor of two.
In contrast, the music compilation 24/96 discs made by DVD-Architect play fine and with the correct speed on a cheap Samsung S324 DVD-video player (even at full 24bit and 96 kHz digital resolution at the S/PDIF output) , or on a computer software DVD player like PowerDVD or WinDVD.
So, it all depends what sloppy firmware is included with each particular DVD player. Please can you tell the model and type of your Pioneer player, only to let know other people which DVD player models have to be avoided for use as high resolution audio playback device.
I have made 24/96 DVDs with DVD Architect. They play fine on the computer. On my DVD player, a cheap, old Toshiba SD110E, they play properly with 24/96 analogue output, but only if I play from the beginning of the DVD. If I use the menu to jump, or use fast forward, they then play at double speed with no sound.
