Haven't a clue. But more importantly, what is your timescale and why? Maybe SONY could read your feedback here and take it on baord too?
We could all guess and do the research from previous experience but it is YOUR needs that would be good to read here. I still have V7 and V8 loaded and my concerns hopefully will be addressed shortly. But until then, and I have time of the essence projects then I DO have the other iterations to fall back on.
well i'm ordering 9, but sticking with 8c till 9a is released - and like lars, the sooner the better.
i don't remember (though as my wife is wont to point out - i don't in general) any vegas release being so 'twitchy' (nice turn of phrase) as it appears 9 is.
personally i've downloaded the trial and on my e6600 with 3gb ram under xp 32bit it seems okay, though it takes an inordinately long time to load the i/o section, and the preview scaling thing seems to be more 'twitchy' than running it without. (for lars - pal hdv on timeline with .png graphics).
i haven't used it for anything too complex as yet (i don't have the time to be a beta tester!), but i'm profoundly surprised that no official beta tester picked up the chroma eye-dropper bug. i've read a number of comments about whether scs actually use real life beta testers (ie. people with real world work), because it does seem a very clear bug in a fairly common situation.
then again, since i make my living out of vegas, i doubt whether i'd want to be a beta tester - it could prove very costly......
Vegas 8.0 was released in September of 2007. October 18th, 2007 brought the release of 8.0a. Maybe 30-45 days then from May 11th?

I too recall remember that it was about a monthy between 8 and 8a. As with any mission critical software, getting on the upgrade path early and enjoying the cash savings of early adoption is fine, but it's always a good idea to break the adoption phase into three parts: acquisition, study/testing, and lastly, implimentation.
I got v9P the day it was released and as I have with all previous versions, I've installed it, and will test and play with it, learning the new functions etc. If I'm satisfied that it won't cause problems for me I'll start using it. If there are moderate to serious issues, I wait for the patch.
I think people forget just how sophisticated the processes are to edit video, audio, effects and compositing. I remember going from tape to digital/NLE editing at work and was just flabbergasted at how advanced the software was. Now we get kind of blase about it - I mean, you can get a basic NLE for $50. I remember when a pro AVID setup was tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars.
So a month to wait, meh. We still have V8cP as a nice, stable version that will do the trick. Yes, I still have to use external import to mxf for my EX1, but it'll be worth the wait. :-)
