A big Thank You to SCS and VASST.

Quick look back doesn't seem anybody has said this so...

I'd like to thanks SCS and VASST for the job they did organising the Vegas NAB party this year. Both myself and my wife had a great time. The entertainment was entertaining, the food was good, the waiting was short, the beer was cold, the mob were quiet and the speeches were short. It felt like a party, bravo.

My one and only ongoing gripe. Vegas party in Vegas, where were the showgirls :)

Sounds like it was a great time had by all!!
Bob, since you were at NAB, did you get a change to preview V9.
If so any comments!

Bob,

I can't believe you were there and we didn't hook up.

It was a great time and it was really great to see Mannie & DSE from VASST announcing Production Assistant being carried by SCS. I include John Rofrano, Jeff Fisher and the others at VASST who've been there for all of us for so many years. It's nice to see the good guys win one...

As for V9 - looking at a 4K timeline with red video files playing on it was quite a thrill. The GUI has more of a Final Cut/Premiere feel about it, especially with the modifications to the trimmer. I really hope this version steps up to the plate in the indie film world.

Nothing hands on, only watching.
At first glance I thought I was in the wrong show, looks more like Ppro than ever. The UI does look better, it now looks serious.
Better / more options for thumbnails, great move in my opinion. Updating these has got to hog a lot of CPU / memory, this change alone may help those having issues.
Native XDCAM EX support. Didn't see this in action but I assume it'll be great. This is LONG overdue.
So, yes, I'm happy to give SCS my money for this upgrade. My two most signficant complaints about Vegas have been addressed.

" I can't believe you were there and we didn't hook up."

With over 1,000 people there it is hard to find anyone!
Wandering around looking at badges always gets me strange looks, do I really look that threatening?

Seriously though, this is a party. I've always felt another user organised get together to chew the fat would be a good idea. Sony Australia have a secret "dugout" and free lunch at NAB, it's great and I always meet some interesting people and renew contacts. Something like this would be great or even if we could in future arrange a place and time to meet in any of the venues on the strip or even one of the meeting places at the show.

I should say this was my best NAB ever. Apart from the Vegas party finally got to see NHK's Super HiVision, yikes, realtime 8K at 24GB/sec with 22 channel audio, yike again. Add their 3D orbits around the moon, totally blew my sox off. Got to play with an IRIDAS 3D grading system with real footage from Dark Country. 3D is going to happen, it was everywhere. The creative challenges will be something else though.

Hey Bob, come on up to Brisbane next week, we'll show you a good time, I'll show you a very long, personal look at V9, and *maybe* I'll get you to jump out of an airplane with me over the Reef a little north of there :-)
Thank you for this post, we appreciate hearing folks had a good time. I wish I could have spent more time with everyone there, the party was too short.
Thank you SO much for the bag of Oz goodies. My waistline hates you, but I'm smiling...

HiVision scared me. That was too damn real.
3D is real. Wait'll you see what we gotsa coming on that score. 3D is so easy now...
