A Big Thanks to whom it may concern

I would like to say "thank you" to someone in the Forums

Just got done fixing a problem I found the answer to here in the Audio forum

Recently after making some changes to my PC, Vegas decides it doesn't want to record streaming audio anymore.........uhhhhhhhhhh, it worked fine 2 dayz ago!!?!?!

The following instructions, posted by a forum member who I can't find the original post from, relieved me of much suffering and keyboard-pounding

"I know this thread is old but here's a solution in case anyone still can't record audio.

To record streaming audio/audio played by ur soundcard/audio played by winamp...

1. install the correct audio drivers for the soundcard. if you dont have a soundcard like the SoundBlaster but instead uses the onboard sound chipset then download the sound drivers for your motherboard.
2. with correct drivers, set the recording volume:
3. Start > Run and enter sndvol32 in the Run text box.
2. Choose Option > Properties. Under Adjust Volume for, select Recording.
3. In the Show the Following Volume Controls section, make sure that all devices have a check mark next to them. Click OK.
4. Click Select for the recording device that you want to use [STEREO MIX, or look below:"Digital Source", and make sure that the recording volume is at least half way up. Click Close.

-- Digital Source: If you need to record anything from sources, such as Windows Media Player, that play on your computer, Internet radio, or a digital CD-ROM drive, you will want to select an option such as Mixed Output, Stereo Mix, What U Hear, Recording Mixer, or Wave. Your sound card may have a different option, but these are the most common options that most cards have.

hope it helps."

Again, a really big THANKS. These instructions immediately took care of the problem. I had just gotten finished removing and reinstalling Vegas, in a vain and fruitless attempt that a corrupt driver or something might be at fault. Had already reinstalled my sound drivers, but that wasn't it either.

Just goes to show how important the smallest bit of information may make the biggest difference to someone tearing their hair out. The Forums are the place for this type of thing. Puts a college education to shame sometimes!

Another little bit of info (that may be outdated) - If you are recording from an analogue input, you may NEED to deselect and digital inputs in the releant device mixer applet, if odd things start happening with regard to wierd pitch/time shifting or glitching. Or was that with SoundForge ?

Yes Geoff,.. and as I remember with my old Dell PC w/ the Yamaha integreted soundcard, (which didn't sound too bad) One had to select "Stereo out" to.. "Record what you hear" as indicated on the old Sound Blaster cards.
