A little reassurance please?

Hey y'all, I'm getting ready to order a new machine. I've looked thru the forums and found a little info on the AMD 64s, but wanted to asked directly. I am looking at an AMD 64 X2 4200+ with XP Pro, everything else I have experience with (Nvidia etc). Is Vegas running okay on the AMD system with XP Pro?
Thanks in advance!

I don't know about others but my 4400+ is running great.
Just curious - what motherboard are you getting?

OK on a 2x4800

Thanks so much Rattangle! Mobo, that is a good question, do you have a preference or a warning?

I'm considering a new machine too. Any data yet on how the AMDs compare against the new intel Core 2 Duos?

I'm running the Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe. I'm sure someone must be running a newer board than that but this one has been solid. The reason I asked, I've got to get another system and have been looking and reading.

Can't go wrong with Asus, I've always liked them. I have a Shuttle in my current AMD machine, but it's pretty darned old, 4X AGP. Been very reliable though. I'll be watching for other replies to this, I've been out of the loop for a while.

vegas + amd 64 + xp pro = good.

but with current prices/power, i'd recomend a core 2 duo instead. it beats the pants off anything amd currently offers. Plus, amd will be releasing new cpu's soon, so why buy na amd 64 4200 with the intel is faster & it's going to be old news soon & you'll need a new mb to upgrade anyway.

but i love my and 64 3000. Make sure you get a board with pci-e though (i didn't), just incase you were deciding on agp or pci-e. it's expensive to upgrade my vid card now. :)

I just rebuilt my PC with a "new" (to me, anyway) Asus A8V m/b, 3800x2, XPpro, Nvidia something AGP card (maybe $50 two years ago). Runs very solidly even with the processors overclocked from stock 2GHz to 2.4. I effectively have a 4600x2.

As for the new Intel stuff, I would guess their top-of-the-line would be ~50% faster than AMD's current top. I've always run AMD, but the Intel Conroe stuff is a significant leap forward, from what I've been able to glean from various reviews.

I agree on sending you toward an Intel Core 2 duo. And I'm currently running an AMD 4800+. From everything I've read, the new Intel Core 2 duo's are faster (20-30%) and run with less heat.

I'm waiting until November or December when Intel's new Quad core's will be out (Core 2 Quadro). As long as Vegas will take advantage of it (will it?), it seems 50 - 100% leaps in performance over the the current core 2 duo's will be possible in certain areas (video encoding is one!).
