Try using Pan/Crop to do what you need to do.

Click on the "FX" button in the lower right of your event (your JPG or GIF) on the timeline. Click on the "Pan/Crop" tab. Now click and drag the "window" handles so that the "F" is really big compared to your event. (If you run out of screen real estate when dragging the handles, then let go of the handle, exit the FX screen, and then come back in. You can now resize even more.)

You'll note in the preview window that now your image is small. Maneuver the handles/dashed lines in the pan/crop window so that your logo appears in, say, the lower right corner of your video.

I created a transparent gif file with my logo very small in the right upper corner, so I just place it in the text or video overlay and it's ready. No need to pan or crop or nothing.

And it looks cool!!
