A nice story about problems capturing with Canopus ADVC-100

My guru buddy had alll kinds of problems capturing with the Canopus
ADVC-100, slow recognition, lost frames, constant restarting ADVC-100, XP suddenly rebooting, sound dropouts, black frames, etc. He ran a special software to check the computer and it said it was ok. Everything else seemed to be working ok. Finally checking the details on one of the XP reboots it had a lot of memory addresses involved so he went into the CMOS and found the memory was in manual at the correct setting. (DDR 400 Elixer) (Gigabyte Board) He put the memory in auto and everything cleared up. He will replace the memory but you guys who are overclocking or have your memory in manual take heed. Canopus doesn't have a clue why this effects their cards.

BINGO! Similar problem here. I built a new system and used high performance memory (Kingston HyperX) instead of the standard memory that Gigabyte told me to use and XP installed fine and things seemed to run fine, but as I started to add programs to the PC, some of them wouldn’t install claiming the files on the CD were corrupt. The system was sluggish at times and randomly shut down every once in a while with a memory error. So I check the memory and my Gigabyte motherboard did not detect the timing settings correctly. I should have checked this because Gigabye did say that the memory I was using had not been tested. Anyway, I manually set the timings to match the memory specs and my PC has been running solid as a rock ever since. Getting the memory timings right is very important. Don’t assume auto will work unless you used memory that was tested for that motherboard.

Isn't this just the opposite of what JJ was saying?

I guess if it doesn't work one way then try the other?
