A Noticable "Haze" Behind Text?

beatnik wrote on 1/14/2005, 3:30 AM
I use the arial font, white with a thin black border and NO OTHER EFFECT
in my videos and I notice a "haze" or "artifacting" behind the letters.

I DON'T use any shadows, am I supposed to "set" something?

I notice this on the computer and even after I burn to dvd and watch it
on tv?

Please help!

Thanks in advance.

What's your preview quality set to?

I don't think it has anything to do with preview quality? I still
get that "haze" after I burn to DVD and watch on my tv set.

I use the HIGHEST quality setting when I render and burn to DVD.

The preview setting will only affect how you see it for sure but I'm thinking there maybe two issues here.
The preview quality setting affects how well the preview is rendered and can sure make a difference to how text looks.
When you play your DVD back how the player is connected to the TV / Monitor makes a difference for other reasons.

If you just have white text on a black background how does it look on the preview if it's set to Best - Full? It should look razor sharp.

Now you said you were using white text with a black border, how does it look without the border?

Sorry for so many questions but I can get text to look perfect on preview, getting it to look good on a TV is much tricker but if you cannot get it looking 100% on preview trying to go forwards is going to be impossible.

1. always monitor your work on a NTSC monitor
2. maybe you use illegal colors? 255 255 255 value of white is simply too high for NTSC . lower the values to 230 230 230 and see if it works better.
3. use a larger font or bold one and see if it looks better.
