a proxy file creator for non HD footage.

I'm wondering if there is a plugin/script/progam that will synchronysly create a dv .avi file and a high compression half rez .mp4 or .wmv type of file at the same time, with the same timecode?

(preferably something free, but for low cost would be ok too) It's for providing clients in other states who want me to cut footage for them a .veg file that they can then switch out the proxies. Will gearshift do this?

Any ideas appreciated. Thanks

Dave

GearShift *could* do this, but to what end? mp4 can't playback efficiently in any NLE, same story with the wmv. So...what would be the point? The point of a proxy is to weigh in less on the CPU and throughput, and the more a file is compressed, the harder it is on the CPU.

the point of this proxy is so that my clients have an easier time of it sending files over the net, etc... - less time spent sending the file to me - less hassle for them.

Catch me offline about this then.

they would have the splitter that would then capture the files

I send them back a project file only - and they just switch out the clips - review it - and then render it into their project.

Will do

Hi Dave,

I'm interested to know if you found a good solution for this.

I'm in the position where I need the smallest posible video files so I can collaborate with another editor.

Thanks!

so far nothing - but you can just drop all the clips on your T/L and do regions around each clip and set a low file size mp4 render of each region (IE - each clip) by using the "batch render" script included in Vegas 6.

It's not the ideal solutiong - but it does the trick for now.

really - I think that's almost exactly what Gear shift does - but gearshift adds some nice features like preserving names etc...

what I'd like to see is an application that will actually capture one stream of video and save 2 different formats at the time of capture. that would truely save some serious time

That will be perfect, to have that option at the capturing stage.

Sony XD-Cam camcorders just do that, btw... (it record mpeg4 proxy files with TC in the same time on the media)
