Hello gentlemen.
I am helping some folks with this mastering tutorial from detroit school of recording and am trying to apply this same setup(which is from a protools system) to vegas 3.
Aux trax and rerouting back to aux trax has got me alittle confused as well as trying to assign bus a/b(1/2 in this setup) to one. From what I see you cannot use two or more busses in vegas at the same time.
Probably a little flustered but any help or ideas would eb grand.
Here is the setup:
The first stereo track will be an audio track that we will put the mix's sound file onto. We will also use this track to automate level changes that we want to make to the master. We could automate pans on this track, except there would be little application for this feature in mastering. We will send the output of this track to buss 1&2.
The second stereo track will be an aux track with the input set to receive buss 1&2. With this arrangement, the audio of the mix will will dump into this track. We will set up the signal processing plug-ins as inserts in this aux track. We apply the signal processing in this second track so that we may automate the DSP parameters so that parameter changes can be made in the middle of the tune and applied after major level changes are made (if needed) before any compression is applied. Present Pro Tools software (V5.2) does not allow both level and plug-in automation to be applied at the same time in one track. We send the output of this track to buss 3&4.
The third stereo track will also be an aux track with the input set to receive buss 3&4. With this arrangement, the audio that has been signal-processed by track 2 will will dump into this third track. We will be setting up monitoring plug-in programs in this track and, therefore, will be viewing the audio after all the processing is done. The outputs of this track are set to feed the stereo out buss (the first two outputs of the 888 interface).
