A small plea. . . . .

Grazie wrote on 9/22/2007, 11:04 PM
I'm getting confused.

Nothing unusual there, I know, but we have come to regard PTT as an abbreviation for "Print To Tape".

However, now with our WONDERFUL ProType Titler, I keep stumbling/double-taking over the gradually being accepted "ptt" abbrev. for this newest of functions.

So, can we agree on a way forward? Please?

And yes, before I get "slammed" by the hardware-niks out there, I also realise that tape is kinda dying, and that PTT might be a thing of the past. However, until that time - yeah?

TIA

Grazie

to ptt = print to tape?

to ptt = alternative?

or simply goodbye tape (bob)?

so grazie, having been truly astounded by your playing, i think you should get to give ptype it's official acronym?

Leslie, thanks for the invitation. However, I'm crap at making/contriving rules but awfully good at breaking them!

So what's wrong with "ptype"?

Not a lot? Who's asking?

It's the first version. - perhaps Prototype would be more appropriate :)

I didn't realize that PTT was Print-to-Tape .. makes sense....I like PTYPE.

I agree: PTT - Print To Tape

I was really confused when someone was talking about titles and kept saying "Print To Tape" (i.e. PTT) throughout the post.
Spot|DSE wrote on 9/23/2007, 1:05 PM
And here I thought y'all were referring to "Push To Talk.". :-)

PType works for me, although I'm haven't found confusion in reading the posts....very little talk about Print To Tape.
Chienworks wrote on 9/23/2007, 2:11 PM
Not to mention that when people talk about "Print To Tape", they often talk about printing to tape. Contrariwise, when people talk about "Pro Type Titler", they often talk about titling with pro type. The context is rarely less than glaringly obvious.

Exactly, which is why it's not been a point of confusion for me.
"I'm trying to use PTT to create a title" or "I'm having trouble getting PTT to send 24p to my HDV deck" seems difficult to confuse. I just can't think of a means in which either context might be confused, other than a topic heading.
Read it and move on if it's not of interest (kinda like all the Blu-ray vs HD DVD posts)

Hey Doug, i'm having trouble getting my new snazzy animated titles out on MiniDV tape. Can you help me PTT? ;)
Spot|DSE wrote on 9/23/2007, 7:12 PM
Yes. Open the PTT tool, type in "Print To Tape on this path" and frames will animate to your tape device when you re-open the PTT tool.

I thought PTT was Push To Talk! :)
DataMeister wrote on 9/23/2007, 8:55 PM
I've always had my own double-taking whenever PTT=Print-To-Tape is used. My first thought is always Push-To-Talk.

ProType isn't much harder than ptt. I mean my gosh if you are going to spell out a whole sentence to adequately communicate a concept how much harder is it to spell ProType with 7 letters instead of 3.

Now if we were typing this out on a cell phone that would be another story.

Spot|DSE wrote on 9/23/2007, 9:11 PM
Hey...howzabout it be called "P2?" ProType Titler? or PTwo :-)
Jeff_Smith wrote on 9/23/2007, 11:43 PM
...Or P2T ;^)
Seems to me the action word is Titler, so maybe PTtitler, but thats almost as long as just spelling it out. This reminds me of the suggestions a while back to rename Vegas.
TorS wrote on 9/24/2007, 4:26 AM
Gentlemen,
It is not called ProType titler. It IS a ProType titler. It is a titler that is called ProType. The appropriate abbrevation would be PT.

Exactly, which is why it's not been a point of confusion for me.

Here's the confustion for me. I see the above and read:

"I'm trying to use the Print To Tape to create a title"

Oops, that can't be right - print to tape doesn't create titles. Ok, we're creating a title now so PTT must mean something else - aahhhh "ProType Titler" must be what he's referring to....

Now re-read:
"I'm trying to use the ProType Titler to create a title"

But it's a convoluted process to get to that point. Much easier if ProType has a more unique acronym.
