A/V Passthrough

I am trying to convert vhs to digital with help of canon Elura 40 connected to vcr. Elura is connected to computer via firewire. I see movie in camcorder screen, but it does not passthrough computer. When I switch camera to camera mode it passes through with no problem. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Here is how it works on my Canon ZR. I think it is pretty similar on your Elura.

1) Turn on the camera in "Playback (VCR)" mode, not camera mode.
2) Push "Menu."
3) Push "VCR Setup."
4) Scroll down and push "AV->DV Out."
5) Select "On."
6) Push->"Return"->Push->"Close"->Push.

That will do it.

I think my problem has to do with Sony Capture not working with Canon Driver. All I have under video menu is Microsoft Dv Camera and vcr... Should I be able to see Canon as well? On the other hand, My passthrough comes in when I use nero essentials, but it wont allow record.

You may want to try Scenealyzer.

The passthrough on Canon camcorders is not automatic. It is something that must be enabled every time on the camera's playback menu.

The firewire port in you computer doesn't really know or care what device is connected to it. When it says "Microsoft camera or vcr" it's telling you that it's using the Microsoft driver for the DV port.

One other thing that often causes trip-ups is that when using the camcorder as a passthrough device you need to disable DV device control in VidCap. With this on VidCap will still be trying to access a tape in the camcorder, won't be able to do so, and will then stop trying to access the camera at all.
