I am looking for a way to import a formatted text file with timecode in/out either to the timeline or to raw media. I have read that trimmer can not be scripted, but can I import regions and have them applied?
I THINK, but am not sure, that you can cut and paste an appropriately formatted delimited text file into Vegas' Edit Details window. I know you can cut and paste from one instance of Vegas Edit Details to another. I thought I had remembered doing this with a text file, but I'm not at my edit machine right now, so can't test it.
Try this:
1. Open up "Edit Details" and set the view to "Regions"
2. Look at the column headings and use a spreadsheet to replicate these exact headings, in the same order, in your data file. Make sure the columns and data match. Save as a delimited text file (with spaces or tabs as the delimiter).
3. Open the text file in Windows Notepad, "Select all" and copy to the clipboard.
4. Go to the Vegas Edit Details window, click the upper left-hand box to select everything, then hit Ctrl-V to paste.
The reason I am trying to do this is because I THOUGHT that I had a better way to streamline things. I had my client review the raw footage and write down the timecodes (note previous posts). Took the time codes into excel and added/subracted each clip to give it pre/post roll. I am now cursing and beating myself up because quite a few of the clients' times are wrong (even with the pre/post the I added).
Now I want to capture the entire tape in search of more footage (especially B) that the client probably didn't think was good - but I can Vegasarize and make it look great.
I want to import the times that were given to me as a guideline. Since the trimmer is not scriptable, I guess that I would have to rerender with markers???
Have you tried cutting and pasting into the "Edit Details" window? You might want to use "markers" instead of "regions," but I believe this will do what you want.
