A word about Youtube and music copyright claims

There have been a few discussions about copyright claims made against users of stock music, but I ran into one a bit different.

I created a song for a video using an Arpeggiator on a soft synth and some drum samples. It got a copyright claim for a Kid Rock song called 3 Catt Boogie (which I had never heard). I listened to the claimed song and it only had two similarities. It was in the same key and used the same chord pattern. His song had guitars, lyrics, and other instrumentation that did not exist in mine. I disputed the claim and it was released within a day, but I find it odd that two songs so completely different in sound, instruments, etc would be found to be the same song in the youtube algorithm. It makes me think the software has been tweaked to catch cover versions of songs as well. If you want to hear the songs, I will post links. (mine was not a cover version either since I had never heard his song)

It is an almost universal scam on Youtube -- extortion bait, and nothing else. Report it and ignore it, the claimant is shooting blanks, often from another country. I once got a copyright claim scam for the sound of a metronome!

I disputed it and it was released the next day. I don't think it was a dishonest attempt, I think it is a bad algorithm.

And yet... I have published actual cover versions of popular track - eg Magical Mystery Tour, The In Crowd - and not received a peep from anyone. Including listeners! Computers, eh?

@Googly-Smythe I have used a lot of copyrighted music as well, and only had one actually blocked. Others were approved but just flagged so they can run commercials over it. This was just odd because I created this song myself and it got flagged. I am surprised if you got by with Magical Mystery Tour songs, The Beatles are almost always blocked.

Perhaps my version was just so good? Ha ha!!
