A1U/HC1 standoff plate

Someone asked me where we got our standoff adaptor for the A1 camcorders so that the tripod doesn't interfere with the tape door opening.
Where we got it, they can't get them anymore, but I did find this guy, and bought one of his. MUCH sturdier than the one we have from an earlier purchase, this one is solid aluminum, and he's a garage entrepeneur.

Spot,

Thanks - it was me who asked about this. I think I'll order one of those.

After a long debate with myself about HC1 vs. A1, I decided on the HC1 (which just arrived at my house today! I'm at work so haven't seen it yet). For what I will use it for, and with my budget, and that I already have a Rode Videomic I'm happy with, the HC1 was better for me... though I still wish it had a proper accessory shoe. I got one of these
Bescor VB-50 Universal Shoe Mount Adapter to mount the Videomic. I'm hoping that I will be able to use this at the same time as the standoff plate, by first attaching the Bescor to the tripod, then mounting the camcorder with standoff plate on that.
If not I'll have to look at an alternate way to mount the mic on the tripod.

We've recently bought two mounting plates for the HC1 / A1s that work pretty well although a bit larger. They fit full length under the camera and then come up on the R.H. side of the camera, big enough to fit two G2 receivers on or one receiver and a light.
I'll try to remember to get th make/mdel number tomorrow, good thing with these is they mount with the screw and spigot of the tripod release plate.

Just roaming around the posts for A1 info ran across this post and another where Spot mentioned he was coming out with a new one.
Here's the new one on ebay for anyone interested:

Damn,
you beat me to it, we just ordered one. I like the ability to use it to mount extra pieces on as well.

This guy keeps improving his models (which is good). I originally bought the “SHIM”, but that wasn’t so good to for mounting an accessory. So he gave me a discount off of a “PROA” which has the accessory mount – and I love it. Since then he has further improved by replacing this with the PROA-T. The further improvement is that there is a wheel for quick removal from the camcorder. (With the PROA, you can only attach or remove the “plate” from the camcorder with a allen key.

Anyway, recommended.
