AAF files

I want to export AAF files from VMS in order to work with a sound guy. Seems it is not a supported format in VMS, only full version Vegas. What would be the simplest way for me to handle this? Is there an external app that would convert the files? Should I upgrade to Vegas? If so, will my VMS project simply open up in the full version of Vegas or is it more complicated than that?
Thanks for your assistance.

Upgrading to the full version of Vegas is always a good idea, if you can afford it. And yes, the full version opens .vf files without a hitch. You just can't go the other way; the studio version will not open the .veg files that the full version saves.

I doubt you'll find an app that will output an AAF file from VMS. I did a quick google search and it looks like the NLE app must do it natively. As you point out VMS can't do it so it looks like your only option is to upgrade to Vegas. Vegas will read VMS project files so your work up to now won't be lost.

Is it a "requirement" that the sound guy have AAF files? Is there no other work around?

Surprised to hear an audio person isn't demanding the wav(raw) format.
But this program can convert to AAC audio.

4eyes, I looked at Super, but it's AAF formatted meta data video files he's looking for not AAC audio files.

Download the Vegas 7 trial, import your VMS project into it (Vegas opens VMS projects), save as AAF.

Thought I'd provide an update on my experience. I did download the Vegas Trial and opening VMS files in it was a snap. However, despite numerous different attempts, settings, tech support calls, etc, I could never get the AAF files to work for my sound guy who is using Pro Tools. Also AAF seems to have a lot of limitations anyway, such as one cannot have both mono and stereo files on the same track etc. A Sony Tech Support person told me that he did not really recommend AAF for sharing audio files. So, I ended up using the Vegas Trial program and buying EDL Convert to make OMF files for the sound guy which he was happier about anyway. this is an expensive workflow in the future since eventually I will have to buy the Vegas trial and EDL Convert was not cheap, but it did work.
