Abandoning Build 511

Sorry guys, not ready for prime time. Weird behaviors, terrible pan/crop behavior, it's worse than the occasional crashes of the last build.

I appreciate the effort to get better builds out, and the fact you're collecting crash dumps and I'm sure people have been working long hours, but this should have been through a full regresssion test and I have a hard time believing that's the case. We're talking basic editing here.

I used Build 511 today and after about 30 to 40 minutes, it turned my computer into a very thick bowl of molasses. I had to reboot. Same thing happened after a while. Once I finished my project, I did a cold boot and started to render. About 4 minutes into the render, the same thing happened all over again.

I do not have time to try and figure out what is going on at this time. I have two more projects to finish by Monday and I gotta get things done. I uninstalled 511 and went back to the previous version. I'll see how adventurous I feel on Tuesday.

Oh, I forgot to say that the program crashed when I shot it down the second time. SCS has an automated report from my computer. I hope they can do something with it

Other than thte main concept thing I have completed 2 projects not to complicated but, a little white balance, and a picture in picture rendered to AVI had no problem with that and it was at least as fast as 10 is.

I know that many people are having problems.

I am not sure if I would trust it to a large project with lots of effects yet, but overall I am pleased so far.

V10 is looking better all the time. Think I'll give up on 11 until I read better reports.

How are you guys going back? Uninstalling then re-installing?

Last night I found that if I uninstalled both 11 and 10, and then hunted down and deleted everything OFX that I could find, and then reinstalled only VP10, the OFX effects would work again in 10.

At this point I can't see any reason to use 11 if I can't rely on the OFX windows being stable.

2 months into the project and 511 comes along. Playback of the very first two clips( just 3 tracks). Huh? I open them in the clip window and they play fine. The main preview window, not to much, regardless of size or settings.

Looked at my settings and tried a few thing for the last 2 hours. It just doesn't make sense. Then, I came to the forum and I see we are all sitting at the virtual bar having drinks and uninstalling 511. Yup. Going back to the previous build until it's all settled down. I've got dead lines too.

The previous build, although it crashed gracefully at least twice a week, I could easily recover. Used Pro since V4 and I've never had to revert to the previous build or version, until today.

I trust this will be resolved. Thanks for collecting my crash dump reports! Shows you guys are trying. Other than 511, great product, but....

I'm back after uninstalling. Going from my disc, it asks if I want to get the latest version and it wants to give me 511. I want 425, my previous build, but it's not an option! It's not listed! The next best choice is the disc build 371. So, I went with that. 371 won't preview or render my project correctly. The video is very jumpy in preview and in the render. Perhaps, it's not build backward compatible!!! Oh dear.

Need to get 425 back as a choice? Until then, I'm dead in the water and so are others. I realize it's Saturday night and I can only hope for Monday to see 425 back on line.

It's a new day. I found a way into their FTP server and was able to download the badly needed 425 build. Go to http://download.sonymediasoftware.com/current/
and scroll down the list. Just click on the link and it loads into your download folder. Save it again somewhere else for a rainy day. Be sure to completely uninstall 511 first. Some have suggested going into the Vegas folder and cleaning house. I haven't done the install yet, I'm running out of time this morning and have to move on and get back to the install. I'll report how it went when I get back. Good luck!

I'm back in the studio this evening. I did the uninstall of build 371 that I used from my original disc. I checked the directory and every file and folder was wiped clean. No issues there. Then I used the 425 build from the FTP server that sits on my desk top at the moment to re-install Pro 11. Okay that went good.

Opened 425 and found my setting preserved like I never left. Opened my 425 project and played a few minutes in preview. Perfect, just like I left it with 425. No video jumps, etc. Just smooth preview video where the stabilized clips look just marvelous, like $30,000 steadicam pans and moves. Preview is set for Best - Half or Full 1080i 60 fps.

Next, rendered the first 3 minutes. Playback is just wonderful again. 1080i 60 fps, MainConcept MPEG2 at 18 fps. The frame counter just flies along with the GPU (HD 6850 1 GB).

I'm back in business and my deadline is reachable again.

This one time, I didn't save the build exe file thinking it would be selectable on the download page. What was I thinking! All these years I saved the build files and never had an issue. So... like the other post that was made, always have a life boat and don't delete those build files. Test, test, test before you commit to production.

I sticking with 425 for now and let's see how 511 + goes. Keep posting!

1-10-2011.... Still reading posts and drinking coffee.

All I can say is I'm glad I decided to skip V11. After going through all of the issues with V9 & V10 releases I'm tired of being a beta tester on a product that does not seem to get seriously beta tested. Sounds like a real nightmare for a lot of users. Perhaps if they had a 3-month public release beta things could get ironed out before the big release. What happens to new users who buy V11 and do not have recourse to previous versions?

Streamworks Audio asks, "How are you guys going back? Uninstalling then re-installing?"

I keep a copy of every build in a special directory. I never install directly from the web site. I always download the build and save it somewhere safe. To get back to 425, I simply uninstalled 511 and reinstalled 425. It was that simple.

I too am reverting back from 511! The 32 bit vs. would crash EVERY time I clicked on the ProTitler icon. Tried the 64 bit vs. which worked ok but still had my original color remnants problem while compressing titles. So I could not use it either. Missed my deadline, tired of being a beta tester and am seriously thinking of Adobe for the first time in 10 years. Sorry Sony...

I used Win 7 Restore point to the time just before the buddy build , uh, I mean "upgrade". That puts your whole windows registry back to it's known good state which is a heck of a lot more reliable than hoping that their uninstall code is better than the stability of the product. (Sorry guys, I'm a dev/test guymyself, but it's tough to understand how it got out. )

Many thanks for the ftp link

-insert
Solution from later workaround!!!
Try checking the the "skip database" and "use legacy drivers" boxes in options->[references-> CD settings

It worked for me!
Burns beautifully. Yay!

-Insert #2
Unfortunately a one-off success. First one worked. Second project did not.
And it kicked the sound card off the bus again.
My love is fading... going to have to swap to 425. No time tonight.

====
older vitriol:
Went from Vegas 8 to 11.511 and have not be able to successfully burn audio to CD. Oh it burns and the data is there, its just that it plays silent after track One.

And as others have posted, only 511 is on the Sony site. (another dumb move Sony). Thats the only version I had.

So thanks again for steering me over to the ftp. Just may solve the problem.

Have yet to do the swap & hoping the serial # for 511 works on 425.
Will post back as to whether 425 does the trick.

kept everything done in v8 except two later edits done in 11.511

Been a Vegas user way back to Sonic Foundry pre v.1
Cannot recall ever having such as basic bug existing.
Someone better be busy fixing this over the holidays!

Oh the other oddball thing is that VMWare Fusion keeps dropping the Microsft Sound Mapper. Only when in Vegas 11.511 Frustrating to say the least.

I upgraded this morning to 511 and my 4 minute video has been taking almost 2 hours to render, and isn't working correctly. I also notice that it works fine for the first ~5% and then slows WAY down. This happens while both rendering as well as watching playback while editing. It's very annoying. I am going to try reverting to 425 because that was solid for me.

EDIT: Reverting to 425 seems to have the same effect. It's almost as if the upgrade to 511 messed up the Vegas registry or something. I never had this problem with 425. I'm really upset with this right now.

WOW!

Glad I read the forum before "upgrading."

I think I'll just let 511 fester in my Downloads directory and never install it, "...ever, no way, no how!"

The uninstalled V10 and installed V11. Now my projects are unstable and often crashes. The primary reason I jumped into V11 was the New blue title pro. Anyone knows, the Newblue titler pro works with V10. Since I unstalled V10, I don't know New Blue title pros compactable on V10.

I wanted to use V10 and Newblue title pro.

Yesterday, I made a 30 min slideshow in VP11, it changed the colours of some of the photos when I rendered into AVI. Also it took 1.5 hours to render. Just pan and zoom. no effects. It was using only 7% of CPU and 12GM RAM from resource perspective. Aboviously something wrong with VP11.

Don't have time to be a sony VP 11 UNIT TESTER.

Sorry to hear about all the problems folks are having.

Regarding uninstalling and reinstalling, I always have the current and previous versions of Vegas installed, so if I have problems with V11, which I haven't yet, V10 is already there and waiting.

Good luck all, season's greetings, including the folks at SCS, who I'm sure are very busy.

I just completed two projects using 511, and my main issues were that when I tried using New Blue plugins Vegas crashed hard, multiple times. However, other than that issue, which I worked around by using Protype, it seemed more stable for my multi camera editing (no crashes there). However, this is all getting tedious, as I've been using Vegas now since 9 and I have to say, I see only nominal improvements in the number of crashes I get on this system. I have never seen this many crashes in competing software. Very frustrating to be deep into an editing project, and bam, Vegas stops working. I continually save new versions, as just saving the file doesn't save you from roll back upon crash. I've also learned that not editing multi camera on multi monitors can save you from crashing during the editing process. Playback is fine after the edit.

"I suppose I could load up an older version Vegas..."

I can vouch for 8

Totally guessing - but it may have to do with the legacy drivers/skip database
going to try restarting with various~ but that I did get one to burn makes me wonder if there is a setting configuration that dials in success.
And why the sound card getting kicked off VMFusion too?

But this is remeniscient of early multimedia days when we were trying to make computers do things they were not designed to do. Honestly its freakin 2012! Plug & play baby. WTF?

I would hope that someone at Sony would have posted a solution (sticky). Especially given this goes back to 10!
Historically Vegas has been a favorite audio editor. Initailly because it didn't care about file format and later as the interface & FX are that good.
But this is unacceptable. If I were working on a paid project using Vegas for the first time? I would be livid. Thankfully those days are behind me
stutch wrote on 12/25/2011, 4:46 PM
Another workaround for Audio CD burning in V11

Given that V11.511 will burn a disc at once CD - and that CD will only play the first track (the rest play silence):

Render the entire disc as a wav file - one long track- then import that into Vegas 8, drop CD track markers and burn that as a disc at once

This will get you home without having to recreate the entire project

I give up. I've had more crashes tonight than in many months of using Vegas. It's interesting, I spent yesterday (before Xmas) doing some multi cam work with Premiere. While their multi cam is not as easy to use as Vegas', the system never once crashed.

I have to say that my experiences with Vegas, over a number of releases, is that they have one of the buggiest pieces of software I've used in decades. It's time they cleaned up this issue once and for all.

Very frustrating... as I watch my editing screen sit in a white wash, waiting for the message that Vegas has, yet again, crashed.
MikeyDH wrote on 12/26/2011, 6:28 AM
New Blue has a Beta upgrade that took care of my crash issues. That and keeping up to date with the latest Nvidia card beta drivers have helped immensely.
NicolSD wrote on 12/26/2011, 9:31 AM
As I said in another thread, I don't know if it's the new hardware or the clean install but 511 works beautifully for me now.
Alf Hanna wrote on 12/26/2011, 12:18 PM
Since I have to complete this current job quickly, and can't take the time right now to move to Premiere, I'll download the New Blue updates and see if it helps. I'm a bit leery of taking on beta drivers, as they likely haven't yet been regression tested on a wide variety of hardware. I can't afford to be someone's beta at this point, but look forward to them being released. I do have the latest released drivers for my card.

I am currently working on a Multicam project and have to say it has been one of the most troublesome I have worked on...I usually never have a problem with Vegas, started with version 8 up to the present build..Vegas 11 by far has crashed more times than I care to count, although the latest Beta drivers from Nvidia helped, it by no means cured the problem, when adding any color corrections, be it either sony or New blue I still get crashes on a regular basis...Hopefully the next update will fix the problem....

Just rendered a half hour project while browsing the forum.
No problems here with build 511.
Not to say that there aren't issues, just not at this end.
This project has colour correction among other FX.
Fingers crossed.
