? about dual layer mastering projects

I've never used DVDA, but might need to use it in the near future for a dual layer replication project.

Bottom of page 169 of the manual says:
Note: When burning a dual layer mastered project, each layer must be burned to separate discs. . .

Does this functionality work in that I can burn layer0 and layer1 to two DVD-R discs and provide them to a replication facility? I did this in the past using Adobe Encore and GEAR Pro, but that was a number of years ago. If DVDA can do it, and do it to spec. then I'll just use that.

The ONLY way you should ever master projects that you want replicated is on single layer discs. Even so check with your replication house, because they may or may not want to accept two single layer discs for combining into a single dual-layer replication master.

Usually doing business in this way the replication house has the right to charge you an additional setup fee for the combo of single disc presentation beyond the other setup charges.

I've done plenty of work in the past with the same replication facility and I know they accept two DVD-R, one with each layer. Before that when I had my DLT machine, I used those, then I learned about submitting two burned DVDs instead. But that wasn't my question; my question was if there are any layer break issues with DVDA and if the feature actually works within the software. When I used Encore in previous years, there were layer break issues and I had to learn how to use IFOedit, and GEAR Pro and calculate the correct location for the layer break. It was a pain.

same problem whether u use encore or DVDAPro - you cannot construct the correct layer break for rep

Ugh.. why is this still a problem in the year 2014...

I submitted a dual-layer replication project on two DVD-Rs back at the end of 2011. Everything worked fine. I did another project shortly thereafter and sent the files via ftp. That also worked just fine. (long upload!)

You should find out what DDP specification level the replicator wants. I think DVD-A offers a choice of 2 or 3 different versions...

Ah thank you for the clarification, glad to hear that you didn't have any problems!
