Abstract Video Backgrounds

Just out of interest, what software is typically used to make some of the abstract video backgrounds? I know you can buy them, in MPEG2 format, from various online services such as Animation Factory and Motion Loops but I am wondering if they can be made easily. Can it be done with Vegas Pro or do you need something else like Adobe After Effects? (I have never used After Effects so I may be way off base here). Is there a Vegas plug in? I am clueless on this topic obviously. Thanks, in advance, for any help.

In Vegas take a look at Media Generators / Noise Texture. With some creative fiddling you can get some rather interesting backgrounds. Keyframe some of the parameters to add movement.

Personally, i write my own software to generate them and get a lot more breadth and variety than what the noise textures offer.

You can do some things just with Vegas's noise generator.
SCS sell their Vision Loops series, pretty good value.
There's also Artbeats and DigitalJuice.

I believe Main Concept have a product that's used for creating a lot of them. There's also Particle Illusion. And of course there's all manner of CGI applications that can also be used.

Thanks for the reply. The Particle Illusion software looks interesting. Have you had a chance to use it?
