AC-3 encoder

I posted the following in the AC-3 encoder forum but their is so little traffic there it could be days before somebody responds. If you use the AC-3 encoder I'd like to know the following... (thanks)

I've been messing w/BeSweet to try to produce AC3 files but I'm not a "let's mess with stuff" sort of person (well up to a point but then I can't afford the wasted time any longer) so...

I guess I have to buy the AC-3 Encoder for VV4. I just have to know before plunking down nearly $300 just to find that the first thing I need it for doesn't work :-)

I have a bunch of projects with a bunch of accompanying music (I'm using 44.1 KHz .WAV files.) Is basically what's going to happen is that I will choose to render the audio seperately and then choose .AC3 as the format?

There may be some settings to choose and such but basically this is going to be as transparent as say using .MP3 source and rendering .WAV in VV right now, right?

It is my understanding (I think) that you either can't use .AC3 in the VV4 project as source material or perhap you can but you can't hear the audio in the preview... is that right also?

Thanks,
Tom

Buy the upgrade to DVD Architect for $200. It includes the AC-3 encoder.

Great... $299.95 according to the this website so far as I can see. But that hardly answers the question right?

Rendering to AC-3 is as simple as placing the WAV files on the timeline and choosing File - Render As and picking AC-3 as they type. You can then click on Custom and change settings as needed or use one of the built-in presets.

I've never tried to use an AC-3 file as a source - I just make them for use in DVD Architect.

You cannot preview, open, edit or do anything except CREATE AC-3 files in Vegas.

DVDA can preview AC-3 files, and they can be used like any other supported source file.

Thank you... I went ahead and bought the upgrade figuring it would work and if it didn't I was going to "scream" very loudly.

It worked fine and I have my AC3-based DVD done already.
