AC3 5.1

Hi all,

I am not sure whether this topic has already been covered or not. I could not find any.
I imported a AC-3 stereo file into the DVD architect 2.0. I asked to recompress the file for AC-3 5.1 Channel. After the DVD is created, the Audio in the DVD shows as 5.1, but the Rearspeakers in the Home theater donot deliver any sound.....But just a hissing noise. I like to know whether the AC3 encoder coming with DVDA really does true 5.1 channel conversion.

I would appreciate if someonce can help me to create a DVD with a true AC3 5.1.

Thanks,
Bosco

Have you tried checking the connection of your rear speakers? They might be disconnected. If they are connected, try changing the settings.

How is the up-conversion supposed to know what you want played on the rear speakers? If you want 5.1, you should start with a 5.1 project in Vegas, create a true 5.1 sound track and render that from Vegas.

I checked the connection to the rear speakers. They are perfect. When original DVDs are played, it works fine. Even when I export an mp3 file and it converts it properly.
I used TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress to convert an AVI file into a Video file [.m2v] and the Audio file[.ac3]. TMPGEnc creates only an AC-3 stereo file, So I imported into DVDA to convert it into AC-3 5.1. But it doesnot seem to work.

Scott, You had mentioned that use Vegas to convert an AVI file into a video file with TRUE 5.1 Surround Track ? Will it convert into a True 5.1 , I haven't used VEGAS not much.....

I will try using Vegas and let me see what happens.

Thanks guys..... Please post if there is any update on the same. I will also post after experimenting the same.

Start over in vegas. Render an ac3 5.1 audio file in vegas.......THEN bring it into DVDA and don't re-render it.

(TMPGEnc creates only an AC-3 stereo file.)

Thats your problem. An audio encoded as a AC-3 stereo file will be
just that a 2 channel file. You must use vegas to create an AC-3
6 channel encoded file for DVDA2. AC-3 can be encoded as a 2ch
or 6ch file or any were in between including the low freq channel. Keep in mind you have to create the mix for 5.1.
