AC3 Encoder / Selling Points for an Upgrade

Quick question. I'm trying to write a proposal for our university's Media Lab to upgrade their workstations from Vegas 3 to Vegas 4+DVD (hopefully with a free upgrade to V5, but haven't heard from Sony yet on that).

We already have Acid Pro 4. If we would purchase Vegas4+DVD, would its AC3 encoder enable AC3 encoding for Acid Pro 4?

I'm trying to sell the university on upgrading to Vegas 4 (or 5...) since the only DVD burning capability we have now is the Sonic MyDVD that came with our burners. I'd appreciate any selling points you think would strengthen my argument too!

yeah mate,

here goes...

easier, faster, more flexible... wait for 5 though, shoudl give options for multiple audio and subtitle tracks....

if youre good enough with the technology, the Uni can carry a Dolby TSA flag with the ir producitons, ie, having the ability to verify that their projects are REAL DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 surround sound encoded and not some hybrid...

this in turn will give the uni more of a reputaiotn when they can say that they carry a license for Dolby technologies.

it can also be used as an extension tool for learning about media... theres atot more to produciton than just having afew cameras and an editing suite...
if you can workout an education plan with regsrd to Dolby, this in turn will provide almost another sememester worth of learning and to the uni, that means $$

I wrote the proposal under a deadline, for fast-tracking an upgrade to Vegas 4+DVD before April 30 (to qualify for the free Vegas 5 upgrade).

Only a few days after submitting it (unbeknownst to me), Vegas 5 debuts!! I thought maybe they'd debut it at NAB and release it later. Didn't know that only days away it would be here.

Well, it came back that they APPROVED the upgrade, and the academic retailer we're purchasing through has Vegas 5 site licenses at the same price as I quoted in my proposal. So we're IN for Vegas 5! Hallelujah!

This is going to enable our students to do things leaps and bounds above what we're scraping by with on our current Vegas 3 / Sonic MyDVD capabilities.

My students thank you, and most of all, I thank you, Sony! Big name, still the same Madison class I've come to know.
