AC3 Surround for Blu-ray

RogerC wrote on 6/5/2017, 3:09 PM

AC3 files rendered from Vegas 14 Pro are not compatible with DVD Architect 7 Blu-ray. They are always recompressed in DVDA7. This does not matter for Stereo AC3 (although it's a waste of time) but 5.1 Surround AC3 files are recompressed to stereo. Blue-ray players indicate that the audio is 5.1 but it is not - there are no Center, LFE or Rear Channels. In other words, it is impossible to make Blu-ray surround AC3 audio tracks in DVD Architect 7.

This does NOT apply to DVDs. DVD Architect 7 accepts the exact same files and does not recompress and reproduces 5.1 surround properly.

I put in a report to Magix (Ticket 2017053117000371) but they sent back a boilerplate "How to.." e-mail which did not address the issue and then closed the Ticket.

I dont know about Architect 7 but for 6 you need to render using Dolby Digital AC3 Pro codec. AC3 Pro files are not then re-rendered. Vegas Pro 13 included this but Vegas Pro 14 does not.

Thank you, Paul. I figured that out also. This is a stunning and unadvertised downgrade for Vegas 14 and makes it virtually useless for my purposes. I shall have to revert to V13 for most of my projects as I master in Blu-ray 5.1 surround almost exclusively. I shall not be using any Magix products in future.

1. Copy the file ac3plug.dll from your C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 13.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\ac3plug

2. Rename it to ac3studioplug.dll
3. Change this file with the ac3studioplug.dll from your C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 14.0\FileIO PlugIns\ac3studioplug.

I copied the ac3plug folder to VP14, renamed it to ac3studioplug, opened

it and renamed just the dll to ac3studioplug.

By following this process, you can get full AC3 Pro in VP14 - AC3 Pro will then work in exactly the same way as in VP13. The process is easy to do, the only thing is that you'll need to do it again on any new update/install to VP14.

I don't have DVDA Pro7, but you can definitely use DVDA Pro 6 to create 5.1 DVDs and/or BDs from AC3 Pro renders created in VP Pro14.

Thanks, Dexcon. I will do that. I still think it's an unannounced rip-off by Magix. I shall avoid their products in future.

Dexcon you reminded me I need to do this again after the build 270 update. I was reluctant to promote too openly what is essentially hacking but I feel I have paid for that codec in an earlier version and am entitled to use it. I can see why they dont want to pay a license for a codec not everyone will use but there should then be a simple (and cheap) way to enable it.
