Except last time I tried I found one needs a username and password????
And no one knows what it is. You could layout a few dollars to get someone to crack it for you.
Seems truly odd to me (if I'm right) that OUR data is being hidden from us but not them.

Actually it makes sense when you think about it. If you screw up the database by modifying with it with an external application and that causes Vegas to blowup, you’re gonna call Sony and waste their tech support time debugging a problem that YOU caused. Tech support is a LARGE part of the total cost of software development. Sony never claimed you can use the data outside of Vegas and the userid and password is just a way to keep you out of places they don’t want you to be.

There's a far easier way to screw up Vegas, the internal prefs.
Mostly MM seems to be so flaky and such a resource hog that most have it turned off.
Once you do have the keys to get into it, like any database it's pretty obvious that screwing with it is not for the faint hearted and those that might have the knowledge to make further use of it would know how to not get themsleves into trouble. Even if you did, a re-install should clear the problem.
What I don't think is wise for political reasons is anything with the Sony name on it hiding our information, way too easy for the wrong inferences being drawn, particularly as not a word has been officialy said as to why they've locked it down.
And bear in mind that even when it's disabled it seems that the SQL Server backend is still running.
Also, here's another issue.
One should be able to move the SQL Server to a backend server and have all your Vegas machines connect to the one server, there's all manner of unanswered questions about MM.

Yeah, initially all I would want is to to get the data out for searching etc. I am a part time VJ and software developer, and would find it very valuable to have a searchable media database integrated with my VJ applications. It seems such a shame to spend so much time organizing your media, if that organization is not available system wide.

Initially I could see making a little web app that allowed searching through my media library. I have terabytes of files that span over ten disks and 3 computers. I like the media media manager interface and it performs pretty good (though I wish you could perform include and exlclude queries simultaneously).

I searched for an OLE/ActiveX object using oleview.exe, but nothing stood out as being the Media Manager COM object.

Perhaps they have obfuscated this for some sort of licensing reasons. But it is our data, we should be able to at least read it.

Ask Sony. Surely a basic export utility is in order. If nothing else, for a backup.

If I were Sony, I wouldn't let people connect directly to the database with other applications, for the reason mentioned earlier where they would spend all of their time chasing phantom errors caused by external apps.
