Acid 4.0 with Vegas

With Sony's promotion for Acid 4.0 for $69.95 I'm tempted to give it a try. What is the normal price for Acid?

Do most Vegas users use Acid? I use Vegas 4 with a little bit of royalty free music. Based on reading a few posts on the Acid forum, it seems llke the product might have a long learning curve.

The main reason I'm interested is becaus of the price. I don't really need Acid right now, but maybe in the future. And if this really is a great price, then I'll buy it now and learn it eventually.

What do you think? Thanks.

If that's a promotion for Acid Pro then I would say go for it. It's most likely a promotion for Screenblast Acid......which is basically Acid Lite. Request a catalog from Sony if you haven't already received one. It will give more details on the differences.

Thanks. The promotion is for ScreenBlast Acid. Is Acid light the same as Acid Express?

No, it's much more than Express.
Check the above link for a product description.
The included Get Media and Screenblast Sound Forge make for a great package for that price.
If you don't plan on getting into effects or midi or surrround sound, than this is definitely a great buy!

Be advised the that copy of Sound Forge that's included is a trial/dumbed down version. Most of the FX's settings can't be adjusted and the file formats are pretty limited too. I think it's$69.00 to upgrade/activate the full product. The acid product seems to be pretty complete. I think it lacks the midi capabilities of the Pro version.

Download the 30 day trial of Screenblast ACID 4.0a and see what you think. SB ACID comes with the free version of Screenblast Sound Forge 1.1 -- sorry we have no demos of that.

I hate all the stupid names associated with the different apps. It just adds for confusion and makes the buyer unhappy. Sound Forge XP,Sound Forge express Sound Forge Le, Sound Forge Studio, Screenblast Sound Forge, Acid Music, Acid Pro, Acid Jukebox, Acid Rock, Acid Dance,Ccid express, Screenblast Acid.....jeezus already!!!!!! Who can keep all this straight? I'm an avid Sony/Sofo software user and I have no idea what the differences are between all the names. If I'm a new audio enthusiast and buy, Sound Forge Studio thinking I got a great deal on "Sound Forge" then as my learning progresses and I realize my needs actually needed "Sound Forge" I would be pissed!!!! As a Pro user, I would feel like I'm paying 500% more for my apps, and getting 5% more features than the $50 version, because I have to have those features 1% of the time. Again, the user feels screwed!!!! Do the math!!!! The apps are virtually the same, except different features are not exposed with different versions, yet one will cost 5 times more than the other. Make up your mind Sony. Do you want to be a industry standard Pro user type of software, or do you want to be a $50 deluxe .MP3 player/editor. The current strategy sucks for both sides at this point, because it's deceptive marketing. How many different versions of Protools are there? Now compare that to the different versions of Acid, and wonder why your consumer is in the most part confused. If you want to play both sides of the market, then get 2 entirely different names and maybe you could be even a little more creative and offer different user interfaces between the apps, so you can easily look at the app and know it's a DIFFERENT app. Now that would be creative marketing!!!!!

Personally, this product line-up doesn't really confuse me and I find it quite easy to read the list of features to know what I'm getting.

As a Pro I also realize the most expensive product is the one I need. ;)

bgc,
I would have to say you're about the only one then. It's obvious there's a lot of confusion from the statements within this thread alone, of which version you need unless you do a lot research before hand. Obviously, if you don't do this indebt research before hand you're chances of getting what you want/need is a shot in the dark. I myself who has been a Sound Forge user since v4.0 was confused when "Sound Forge Studio" was released. I have a recording studio, which of course I would expect to be able to use things like FX's/plugins and midi time code to sync other devices together. If I was a new user interested in getting "Sound Forge" and doing studio work, I would look at the name and say, "Sound Forge Studio?", I'm familiar with the name "Sound Forge" and have seen it used in Studios and I would like to do my own studio type of work, then "Sound Forge Studio" should be the one I need? Right?

As a pro user looking at the comparison between Acid Pro v4.0 and screenblast Acid v4.0, I would feel like I'm getting screwed. The major differences between these 2 apps is Timestretch, Midi/MTC, DX FX's, VSTI and alternate time signatures. Of those the major ones the pro user will use are the FX's and Midi. So for those couple of features I'm paying an additional $329, while the kid up the block can do 95% of what Acid Pro can do for $69, compared to the $399 price I have to pay.

"The promotion is for ScreenBlast Acid. Is Acid light the same as Acid Express?"

"I think it lacks the midi capabilities of the Pro version."

"Be advised the that copy of Sound Forge that's included is a trial/dumbed down version. "

Well, fortunately or unfortunately, I am used to being "the only one" on a lot of things.

All I'm saying is that when I have been confused on a SF/Sony product line and which is the best choice for me, I go to the product page, read the specs and decide. If in the rare case those don't answer all the questions I download the demo(s) kick the tires and find out. Sure it takes a little bit of effort, but when I'm looking for gear I take my time and make sure I'm buying the right thing (reviews, demos, etc.)

It's worked great for me in the past, but then, maybe... I'm "the only one" ;)

Peace,
B.
