How do you use them (can't find an association with .sfi files)?

AMD TR 2990WX CPU | MSI X399 CARBON AC | 64GB RAM@XMP2933  | 2x RTX 2080Ti GPU | 4x 3TB WD Black RAID0 media drive | 3x 1TB NVMe RAID0 cache drive | SSD SATA system drive | AX1600i PSU | Decklink 12G Extreme | Samsung UHD reference monitor (calibrated)

How do I use them? I drop AM onto the Audio Event and use the "Open Impulse File" Menu.

Why do I use them? I use them as any other SFx. What I can do is turn a V/O into something that sounds like it was recorded in the Albert Hall. I need to browse to the folder that has the "Mirrors" to use. What is real neat is that most of the Vegas Mirrors have a little Image of the type of place you are wanting to "mimic". My "*.sfi" files are in:

C:\ . . . . Sony\Shared PlugIns\Audio

I also understand, if you have some clean background of the venue you were at/in, you can use that as an Impulse! Meaning, if you do a v/o of a speech and want to retain the "feel" of that hall you only need to recall YouHall Impulse! I've yet to convert THAT to an impulse . . .

This is a great way to "blend" a flat sounding audio into the rest of the mix. - very very clever . . .

To create an Impulse file I believe you need to playback the reference impulse sound file and record that. The Acoustic Mirror plugin is then used to analyse that and produces the impulse file. Ideally I think the mic needs to be positioned in the 'space' at the place you'd like to recreate the sound from. Looking at the plugin though you could probably get by simply using a couple of well spaced hand claps or a clap stick to create the impulse.

Ages ago I recall there was a set of instructions around on how to go through the whole process.

Bob.

edit: Bingo, in the knowledgebase here.

Bob, those same instructions are also in the Sound Forge online help menu.

Good point however it'd be harder to post a link directly to the right page.

This seems like something I'd like to use. For example, recreating a sound as recorded in a performance space, because the live track was mostly good except there was audience noise at one point, and I also have the original (dry) track without the room reverb, and I could record an impulse in the space beforehand, or afterwards.

Is the Acoustic Mirror a plugin that comes standard with Vegas or is this a program that is purchased separately?

It's built into Sound Forge.
There are a number of free impulses on this page.
