Action Figures and VASST competitions

A caricature like "GI Joe" presumable can not be used in a movie production without licensing, but what if there is a skit in which one of the retail action figures of him is used. Are licensing requirements the same as just making a model of "GI Joe" to star in your own movie?

Same question for retail purchased Beanie Babies. Can I, without licensing, make at stop action movie using trade marked Beanie Baby caricatures?

I think a parody can use just about anything, as long as it's the subject of the parody. Just don't let GI Joe hold a miniature Budweiser can without throwing a zing at Anheiser Bush.
