Activation

I have Vegas 6 and an upgrade to 8. Under WIN7 I can not install Vegas 6, Vegas 8 installs and runs fine. My issue is because I have an upgrade from 6 to 8 I can't activate 8 and therefore it will expire. How can I resolve this?

Go to the Sony Creative Web site and create - or log in to - your account. You will find a section with all your purchases, and corresponding serial numbers. Your activation number will be listed also, or you will get it through e-mail after you run the registration procedure (again). Then simply type in your activation key (after you get it) when you start the application again. Sony gives you 30 days where you can run your app without activation, so while you are waiting for your activation key, go ahead and use your app. If you have registered and haven't yet received your activation code (if you need one) by say 4 or 5 days, then I would call customer svc.

Upgrades from Sony Creative Software never require any information from the previous version in order to install and activate. Each upgrade is a complete, stand-alone purchase with it's own serial number and activation independent of the version used to upgrade from. Once you've gotten the discount on the order form you're done with any need for the old one.

So, if you purchased the upgrade from Sony, you will have received a new serial number for version 8. Use that when you install and activate.

There have been some reports that there are a few 3rd party sellers who offer a "tied" upgrade, which does require the previous version to be installed. These are pretty rare. I seem to recall that B&H did that with their upgrade to version 6. Where did you purchase your upgrade?
