"Add as Take" for 2 clips already on timeline

Vegas allows you to right-click on a file in the explorer view then drop it on an existing clip, which brings up a drop-down view: Add Across time, Add across takes, add as take, etc. Most handy. Now I want to take a clip already on the timeline and add it as a take to another clip already on the timeline. However, right click doesn't provide the same options when applied to a clip already on a timeline.

It would be nice if the right-mouse drop-down worked for any clip anywhere, wouldn't it :-?

Here is the background: I'm using the virtualdub deshaker method as outlined by John Meyer. Each clip that I deshake becomes a new clip that is 30 frames longer then the original, where the extra frames are "duds" placed at the start of the clip. So I have to snip 30 frames off the resultant clip before I can "add as take" over the original. Option 1 is to add the resultant clip to a new track, snip it, then add it over the original. Option 2 is to edit the resultant clip in the trimmer then add it over the original. Option 3 is to add the resultant clip over the original, then snip it. I cannot get any of these options to work satisfactorily.

The good news is that I'm a very inefficient Vegas user so the odds are good this can easily be done and I just don't know how. So i'll take the RTFM risk and throw out the question...

BTW, option 4 is to write some script that checks every clip for an additional file with the extension "deshake" in its name, destructively snips 30 frames off the front of that file, then adds the result as a take to the matching original. That would be best of all. I'll take that question over to the script forum if this thread hits a dead end.
