Adding background music to menu page

Seems like this should be easy. When the DVD is inserted I want a song to play on the menu page. Not a compilation, just one song...and perhpas it could repeat from beginning once it ends...

would be even better if same song would play when viewer moves to the 2 submenus too...

why can I not seem to figure out how to do this? help!
thanks a mill

Usually you'll set either a still or an mpg2 file for a menu page background. Below the video track is one for audio -- easiest method is to drag your audio file there, but you can go to the menu's media properties and select an audio file. It should be DVD spec audio at a sampling rate of 48 -- if using Vegas + DVDA you can create an ac3 file in Vegas & import, or DVDA will encode for you after ideally importing uncompressed wav. Duration is set for the whole menu, as is looping in the properties window at the upper right.

Some problems might occur if you're not encoding to ac3 -- might search the threads here in that case for possible format problems/cures. DVDA will accept ac3 created by other (non-Sony) programs, but it can take a few minutes as DVDA scans the file. One thread I think pointed out problems if the audio file is longer than the video.

When going to another menu you'll have to repeat audio import for that menu.

If you mean to "continue" to play without interruption while changing menus, that cannot be done -- the song will start "new" if your target menu has background audio...

There are "tricks" to do this with BOV's and multiple angles, but they won't necessarily work on all set-top DVD Players (might work ok using computer dvd software player).
