Adding extra VOBS into DVD "folder"?

I was able to get the THX trailer VOB.. and I already have my DVD authored... I just haven't burned it yet. Is it possible to just stick the THX trailer into my DVD authored "folder", then when it gets burned the trailer should load up before the menu?
If so, what do you name the filename, and where would you stick it?

If not, what do you suggest? I tried converting the trailer VOB into an AVI, but wouldn't it just get recompressed again when I convert it into a DVD MPG2? Or is it possible to convert the VOB directly into an MPG2 file?

My guess is NO. You would need to modify the menu structure to point to that file first. That's what the Introductory Media in File - Properties is for.

can you use a VOB directly for the Introductory Media? Or does it need to be a valid mpg/avi/mov file?

Make it a valid MPG or AVI and all should be fine.

but if i make it into a valid AVI/MPG file, doesn't that pretty much compress the VOB file (which is already in MPG2) format?

Thus when it's burned to a DVD, the quality is lower than it was before?

I'm trying to find a way to burn the clean video as is?

Or do I not make any sense...

I think you are right and the quality would be lower... :(

but if I were you I would try to do the following:

1)author the DVD with the re-encoded VOB (I mean the mpeg file obtain from the VOB),
2)go into the video_ts folder and simply substitute the new VOB with the old one...

I am just trying to guess, but I think that if it is just a movie with no markers, chapters and so on, it could work...

Please let me know if it works, I am quite curious

You can use TMPGEnc's 'mpeg tools' under 'file' and use one of the demultiplex options to extract the native video and audio streams. You could then use those files in your DVD-A project. I'm not sure what you are looking to do with them, but they could be used in the first play option. Since the files are extracted, you would have no loss of quality. You can not just 'add' VOB files to an existing video_ts folder and expect that to work. An authoring application like DVD-A creates not only the VOB files, but the all important ifo/bup files that one's set top player actually reads and knows what to do with the VOB files. Since the THX files were not a part of your original project, there is no way the ifo files of your project has any information on them to tell your set top what to do with them (the THX files that is).
