Adding FX to single event

Renald wrote on 1/12/2005, 9:15 PM
I'm having trouble applying FX to single events (scenes) I've selected (highlighted) without the effect being automatically applied to the rest of my video film which I did not "select". What am I doing wrong? Page 64, Par. 3 of the Manual does not provide the answer.

BTW, where else can I find the answer to questions that are not covered in the Manual or tutorials (other than in this very nice forum which I would hate to resort to unduly while I am teaching myself the art!)?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Please describe exactly how you are applying them.

Definitely, if you could describe how you are selecting the event and then how you are applying them, that would help.

I'll take a wild guess and say that you are selecting a portion of the movie by highlighting a section of it with the cursor. If so, then any FX would apply to the entire event, NOT just the selected portion. You'll want to make sure you split the event into multiple events and then apply the FX to only the events where you want to do so. Even though you've split the event it will still play smoothly (assuming you don't split then move the event(s)).

You need to drag the FX to the clip you want enhanced on the timeline. After which, the little FX marker for that clip will turn green indicating that the clip has an applied FX. Alternately, if you drag the FX to the preview window of any clip the FX is automatically applied to all clips on the timeline and the FX markers remain white.

Bingo! I was applying the FX to the preview window instead of to the timeline (track). Second time you guys solved my problem! Thanks also to Gogiants and GaryKleiner who likewise responded to my Post.

Ken,

thanks for the offer. My e-mail address is

rivanraalte@cs.com

From the aditional interest, it sounds like you should publish it (your manual) commercially!

I've got a new question (re credit rolls) but will start a new subject stream.

Thanks again
