If it's just text you want to add, look under Media Generators / Text. Use the transparent background preset to create a text event on a track above the main video track. You can then type any text you want and position it over the video.

You can get creative and use two tracks of text overlays to make a colored underline under the text.

If you want something more complex than that you'll have to create it in a photo-editing or drawing program and import it as a still image.

I just want text over a colored background strip in the lower right hand corner.

You might want to look into using the "picture in picture" effect, part of the "cookie cutter" set of effects. You can have your colored background with text on tracks underneath the main video and have it revealed by the PIP effect.

Another thing to try would be using the pan/crop feature on a solid color background. You can have just the bottom part of your main screen covered by the solid color background, with your text over that.
