Adding high frame-rate clips - quick fix to real time?

Laci-Kobulsky wrote on 9/23/2018, 4:11 AM

I am often working with high framerate clips from GH5 that are be default in slow motion. When I put all my media on the timeline and review it (this is my workflow, i put everything on timeline and then select best parts and organize them) slow-mo clips takes too much place. It would be great if I can import them with real-time speed but as far as I know Vegas does not have such option.

I am close to go around to find solution, after I import clips on timeline I can increase velocity for one clip and then paste effect attributed to all clips. However length of each clip is still the same, just repeating. I was looking around menus for the option to stop the repeat but that would only freeze at the end frame. If there would be an option that would automatically shorten the end clip with changing velocity, I could just select them all and use command "close the gaps". Would anybody know of such setting?

What's the frame rate of these clips?

And which version and which build of Vegas Pro do you use?

@Marco. I shoot VFR 180fps and file is 50fps. So I need to set velocity to approx 300% to play it real time.

Excalibur can change the velocity on the clips and shorten them to match the new velocity.

@jetdv I checked it online http://www.jetdv.com/excalibur/home.php (I guess you are involved), is there support for V16?

jetdv wrote on 9/23/2018, 7:39 AM

Yes, I wrote Excalibur. And, yes, it works in VP16.

At the moment I can't repro. I'm looking for appropriate HFR footage now.

@jetdv so you would download "Custom Command for Vegas Pro 14 64 bit." correct? then I would go to "Set Velocity" I choose what I like and it will shorten the clips. I can do that for all clips at once?

jetdv wrote on 9/23/2018, 7:43 AM

Yes, that would be correct.

@jetdv Thanks, I am going to give it a try and post my results after

I tested several HFR clips now and all of them are real time with its original source fps. There is no change in playback rate or velocity, unless I use the HFR import option from Project Media.

I wonder why this happens on your system. Maybe there is a particular meta data in your clips or maybe something's different between our Vegas Pro settings.

@Laci-Kobulsky

"I shoot VFR 180fps and file is 50fps."

Sorry, I missed that part and thought the clips still are 180 fps when you import them into Vegas Pro.

@Marco. yes, that is how my camera records and store HFR clips, there is no other option.

@jetdv I tried and it works great in V16, I am able to set it even over 300%. Option to set to marker value is super smart if somebody have different frame-rate files but when I use it it does not cut clip to the end. Thanks and how can I unlock demo version over 15 days? Link on web does not work...
