Adding transition effect to stand alone event

ericlast wrote on 9/13/2005, 7:51 PM
In VMS 4, I was able to add a transition effect to a stand alone event (eg. drag a fly in or other transition at the start or end of a title event).

In Platinum, the program has prohibited me from doing this every time I've tried, either at the beginning or at the end of an event. The transitions work perfectly when dragged to overlapping events in the timeline.

Am I missing something I need to do to enable this effect (my audiences aka family really enjoys those cool effects when titles appear!)

Thanx in advance

It works for me but the default length is quite short so
you need to strech the transition time and you need to drag right on the line at the beginning of the clip.
Hope this helps

jimmyz-

Thanks for the reply...

Tried it again, and still no go. When I try to drag a transition to a title event, I get a round circle with a line through it prohibiting me from placing the tranisition.

I did find a way around this...I place a default text event with the text removed before (or after) the title event I want to transition in to or out of. I then overlap the empty text event with the real title event...I can then insert the transition I want into the overlap, and things work like they used to.

It works, but it's a little annoying...any other thoughts???

Sounds like something is wrong there. You may need to contact Sony, eh?

I submitted the problem to Sony Tech Support...

Let's see what they come up with.

Maybe this is assumed, but do you have a standard fade-in on the event in question? In my experience, you need this to exist before being able to drop a transition onto it.

Good idea, but it didn't help. Even with a fade in on the event, I still can't drop a transition on to it.

OK, so here's the response I got from Sony Tech Support:

Thanks for writing.

Unfortunately, this is not possible. This has never been possible as a feature in any version of Vegas or Vegas Movie Studio. You will always need two events to place a transition between - they cannot be applied to single events.

...so am I crazy, or was it possible to drop a transition onto a stand alone title event and make it fly in, fly out, wipe in, etc.

And so I went back through the forum, looked up some stuff on this topic, and went back to my current project. I went to a stand alone title event, added a prolonged fade in, and WAS ABLE TO add the transition to the event without adding a blank event . Problem solved. Thanks for the replies ( and yes, I'll let tech support know the solution)

so it's solved?
or is it impossible?:)

jimmyz-

It's definitely solved! It works...I realized that my mistake was that I had tried to add the transition to the title event after putting a fade in on the title, but I wasn't dragging the transtion to the faded in part of the title. Once I did it this way, it worked perfectly!

Pretty interesting that the Sony Tech Support guy didn't realize what all of you did!
