Adding transitions to a cut question

Markrk wrote on 9/7/2010, 6:10 AM
I'm using movie studio hd platinum 10. I'm getting inconsistent results when I add a transition between two stills.

At options/preferences/editing, I have set "alignment" to "center on cut". Most often, when I add a transition to the cut, the transition is aligned "after the cut".

Other times it seems to work.

Can anyone help me to get consistent results with this?

Thanks,

Mark

I can't help with the way you are doing this. When I want to make a transition between two stills ( or two video clips ) I overlap them .. which gives a cross fade .. if I want something different .. I select the transition from those given and drag it and drop it on the overlap.

Ok, Thank you.

I just thought that since the alignment option is there it sould work. I will do it the way you suggest.

I don't use that feature very often, I generally overlap as I wish the apply the transition. But I have not noticed any inconsistencies with it.

Perhaps you have snapping turned off? So even though the events look close on the timeline, they're not actually touching? F8 will turn it on and off.

I find, in VMS v10, when the events (stills even) are butted right up to each other (ie, with snapping on, the thing blue line 'glows' when they're butted up against each other) that dropping a transition works as expected. Regardless of whether it's dropped with the left or right one I did notice that the drop icon changes from a single small rectangle to multiple, depending on which event was selected, but that didn't seem to make any difference for me.
