Adding Vegas to second computer (laptop)

Sorry if this seems elementary, but I want to make sure I get it right before I try it. I have Vegas on my main home computer, but I can't always wait for "my turn" to use it, so I want to put it on our laptop, as well. A few questions: Can I use my existing program/license, or do I have to buy another copy of Vegas? I won't be using them at the same time. Also, if I use an external USB hard drive for media, will I be able to swap the drive from desktop to laptop to work on projects? And, the laptop doesn't have firewire, but since I'll do any capture on the desktop, will no firewire cause any problems for running Vegas on the laptop? I hope to eventually have a dedicated workstation for editing, but I'm hoping that this will work for me for the time being. Any comments or suggestions welcome. I know the folks on this forum are always willing to help. Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can use the same program/license of Vegas on your laptop as long as you’re not using both at the same time. Your external drive idea should work as long you configure it to keep the same drive letter on both machines. You should also have Vegas installed on the same drive letter on both machines. This information is stored in the .veg files.

We'll assume the laptop has USB2.0.

The easiest thing to do is to keep the veg file at the root of all your project media files. Vegas seems to check the current directory first so in that case you may not even need to worry about drive letters.

Otherwise, even if the drive letters aren't the same Vegas can search for media and once it's found one piece of media it can search the same location for the rest of the media. Not bad.

Actually the licensing question will be affecting me in the next few months. I'd like to get an answer from (Please, take no offense JohnnyRoy) Sonic Foundry themselves on this post if possible :)

Alliante, will this satisfy you? (BTW, the answer is YES as long as they are not used at the same time.)
