Adding Video To a Motion Background

I saved a movie in SVMS 12 as an mpg file. I did this because the normal saved file was a .vf file and DVDA would not recognize it. I opened DVDA 5 and added a motion background of a filmstrip which is an mp4 file.

I tried to insert my mpg movie but it would not allow me to do so. I got a circle with a red line through it when trying to drag the movie on the background which I want as my menu.

So my question is if I have an mp4 motion background which I want to use as the menu, how do I add an mpg movie to the menu? Or do I need to change the mp4 format of the motion background to get this to work?

Thanks,
Mike

I use DVDAPro Arch and VegasPro - so do keep in mind these versions have the most versatility. AFAIK, the motion menu background can be imported from two file types created and rendered in VegasPro - compatible Mpeg2 video elementary stream or Sony MXF encoded file.

When you say you 'saved' the movie as an mpg do you mean that you 'rendered' it as an mpg or that you used Save As and changed the file extension?

A .vf file is your project file isn't it? That's what holds all the info (cuts/fades/colour correction etc) to take to the render stage. You need to render that to a DVD compliant file first from within Vegas.

Yes, I did mean I rendered it first. I did figure out how to get the motion background inserted. I just right clicked on the default blue menu and clicked set background and selected the one I wanted.

Here is another question. My motion background runs for 15 seconds. I want it to continue to loop the motion scene until a button is selected. I clicked loop from the properties menu and it worked the first time.

Now when I preview the movie the motion background runs for 15 seconds and the background then changes to a black screen. My buttons are still there. How do I get the color background to keep looping and not change to black. I also added audio to the menu.

I noticed on the timeline for video in DVDA after the 15 seconds the filmstrip images are all black. I don't know how that happened.
